    Truck-theft suspect captured in Mexico
A man suspected of stealing a pickup in Solana Beach early yesterday sped across the U.S-Mexico border, where Mexican authorities shot at him and took him into custody, authorities said.

The man, who was not wounded, was turned over to California Highway Patrol officers who had pursued him to the San Ysidro border crossing.

About 4:50 a.m., an employee at Pizza Nova on Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach called 911 to report his 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup stolen, sheriff's Lt. Dave Myers said.

The employee reported that he'd left his keys on the counter and the front door unlocked. A man walked in, grabbed the keys, threatened the worker and drove away in the truck.

The CHP spotted the Tundra on southbound Interstate 805 at Interstate 8, Myers said. CHP officers pursued as the Tundra raced toward the border at 100 mph. The driver sped through the checkpoints and was fired at by Mexican border guards, Myers said. The truck crashed to a halt. Myers said that as of last evening, the pickup had not been returned to the United States.

Since the suspect was almost immediately returned to US authorities I assume this was a United States citizen. Now if the border patrol in the United States had shot at a Mexican illegal this would be an international incident.

That's the first thing that came to me as I read the above...
    Such hypocrisy.
