Two conservative senators will appear alongside President Trump at the White House Wednesday to announce a new version of their bill to restrict and reform legal immigration. Arkansas’s Tom Cotton and Georgia’s David Perdue have been coordinating with the White House on the legislation, which may propose to cut legal immigration levels by about half by 2027.

“Our current immigration system is outdated and doesn’t meet the diverse needs of our economy,” said Cotton aide Caroline Rabbitt. “Senator Cotton and Senator Perdue will join President Trump to unveil legislation aimed at creating a skills-based immigration system that will make America more competitive, raise wages for American workers, and create jobs.”

Cotton and Perdue have worked on the bill with Stephen Miller, a top White House aide and speechwriter, and an immigration restrictionist, Politico reported in July.

This is the merit-based comprehensive immigration reform that Trump talks about. He was never talking about amnesty "comprehensive immigration reform". He was talking about comprehensive reform of legal immigration to stop importing poverty and only import skills we actually need to reduce the numbers and eliminate foreign-born welfare beneficiaries.

You're living in denial.

His position on immigration -- which has been a huge part of his appeal among conservative voters nationally -- grew even more muddled Friday when he highlighted his support for a "merit-based system" for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

Prior to the speech, Trump floated his desire for a compromise on immigration reform during a lunch with TV news anchors. He suggested at the time that he was open to granting undocumented immigrants legal status.

You can attempt to obfuscate the issue but you can't hide from the facts. Had I the time and energy, I could probably find a whole page of examples where Trump basically said he supported amnesty in one form or the other.

But, using corrupt media quotes with "Trump suggested" or your own with "Trump basically said", when he did not say, does not want and does not believe in amnesty, is not the "truth" and are not "facts". Like I said earler, you can attempt to obfuscate the issue but you can't hid from the facts. Trump has been wishy-washy on the subject of illegal immigrant amnesty dating back to 2013.

"Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped." Trump tweet August 2013.

Trump has been very squishy on the amnesty issue from the beginning of his campaign to now. If it's direct quotes you want, do you're homework. There are plenty of direct quotes all over the internet.

Donald Trump's broken promise to us on the DACA amnesty alone should be enough to convice you of his willingness to flip-flop on amnesty. Didn't he immediately promise us he would end DACA immediately upon being elected President? Of course he did. Well, we all see how that is going. He's still renewing DACA members and accepting new application. If it wasn't for the Attorney General of Texas, there would be no end in sight to how many more DACA amnesties Trump would hand out while awaiting a legislative fix to get him and his "heart" off the hook.

LOL!! 2013 quote from Trump about securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration BEFORE any consideration of any type of amnesty. Sounds like a very sincere and accurate warning AGAINST AMNESTY to me. Funny you would think it means something else. While you twiddle dee, Trump and this administration march on with securing the borders, stopping illegal immigration and deporting illegal aliens already here, along with many other good actions to support our cause to end illegal immigration into the United States, once and for all. He is also working to reduce legal immigration.
