President Donald Trump’s latest pick to aid in an “America First” immigration plan is now being attacked by a media agency funded by billionaire George Soros.

ProPublica, a media organization backed by Soros’ Open Society Foundation, attacked Trump’s pick to run the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency, Lee Francis Cissna, which facilitates a large portion of federal immigration issues.

Among the multiple attacks on Cissna, the ProPublica piece made a point to blast the USCIS nominee for his work on immigration issues with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA), hitting him for opposing the Obama-era expansion of rights for illegal immigrants:

From 2015 until earlier this year, Cissna worked for Grassley on immigration issues, having been detailed to his staff by Homeland Security. During that time, he remained on the agency’s payroll.

While there, he drafted dozens of letters under the senator’s name to Homeland Security officials, helping Grassley, an Iowa Republican, to intensify his oversight of immigration and creating a blueprint for dismantling President Obama’s initiatives, according to a dozen current and former agency and congressional staff members
.

The Soros-backed media outlet portrays Cissna as a shadowy character who ghost wrote letters for Grassley which slammed the Obama Administration’s lax enforcement of immigration law.

One of the positions Cissna is being attacked for was work against a 2016 plan to give illegal immigrants protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) the option of obtaining travel documents, aside from their work permits.

Cissna also opposed the use of requesting asylum by illegal immigrants who arrive through the U.S-Mexico Border, writing in 2016 that crossers would continue “asserting dubious claims of asylum, which will practically guarantee their entry.”

Center for Immigration Studies Director Mark Krikorian told Breitbart Texas that Cissna is the “first person ever” to be nominated to head up USCIS who actually has worked in immigration law and policy.

“He’s uniquely qualified. He’s been an immigration lawyer,” Krikorian said. “He’s been in charge of immigration policy for DHS, even under Obama.”

On the attacks from a Soros-supported media outlet, Krikorian said this is business-as-usual for the media, noting how they have attacked almost all of Trump’s immigration hires.

“Anybody that Trump Administration nominates to any immigration post, has a target on his back,” Krikorian said. “I’m surprised there hasn’t been even more targeting of Cissna. Literally every single person who is involved in any immigration decision has been criticized.”
