Trump Was Right — In Book, Jeb Credits His Wife For His Immigration Views

    2:40 PM 09/17/2015
    Scott Greer

In the first two sentences of Jeb Bush’s book, “Immigration Wars,” the former Florida governor credits his wife Columba with shaping his views on immigration.

That might come as a surprise to some voters, after Bush demanded that Donald Trump apologize Wednesday night for making the same point.

Bush was asked during CNN’s Republican primary debate what he thought about Trump’s statement to CNN in July: “If my wife were from Mexico, I think I would have a soft spot for people from Mexico.”

Bush, whose wife was born and raised in Mexico, demanded an apology from the real estate mogul.

Trump refused to apologize, “because I’ve said nothing wrong.”

Despite Bush’s apparent irritation, in the opening lines of his 2013 book, “Immigration Wars,” he admitted that his wife Columba had in fact shaped his views on immigration.

“Immigration to me is personal. It means my wife and my family,” Bush wrote in the very first two sentences of the book.

Two paragraphs later, Bush explains specifically how his wife influenced him on the issue:

“Thanks to my wife, I became bicultural and bilingual, and my life is better because of it. For the first time in my life, I learned what the immigrant experience was, and I grew to appreciate her desire to learn English and embrace American values, while still retaining her love for the traditions of Mexico,” the former governor wrote.

Bush has been outspoken in his support of immigration reform and “Immigration Wars” details his policy ideas on the issue.

Trump has criticized Bush’s views on immigration and has characterized them as “weak.”

But on one issue, they appear to agree: Columba Bush influenced Jeb’s immigration views.

Here are the passages from “Immigration Wars” where Bush credits his wife’s influence:

I'm glad someone got to the bottom of this one. Trump is usually right, because he is honest and consistent.

Keep an eye out for those who do. Including the media. Like last night, Trump said he didn't lobby Jeb for casino gambling in Florida, which is what Jeb was talking about. The media then turns the issue into did Trump want casino gambling in Florida instead of did Trump lobby and contribute to Jeb Bush trying to secure casino gambling in Florida.

The confusion between the two issues, one whether someone wants casino gambling and someone who lobbies Jeb Bush for casino gambling in Florida into the same thing, is how the media has tried to confuse the issue that matters which is whether Trump lobbied Jeb for casino gambling and lost. The fact is Trump never lobbied Jeb for casino gambling. Trump when asked about casino gambling said he thought it was a good idea, that it would generate nice business and new tax revenue for Florida, and if and when the state ever approved it, he had 800 acres next to his Doral Resort in Florida that would make a good site for a new casino, which was in 2013, 15 years after the fund-raisers he held for Jeb in his first run for Governor in 1998-1999.

Prior to Jeb even running for Governor, the Seminole Tribe in Florida which had some gambling operations and wanted to expand to casino gambling hired the Trump organization to manage their gambling operations and hired a lobbyist to pursue casino gambling in Florida. The Seminoles hired a lobbyist who was also a lobbyist for Trump on other matters, but was representing the Seminole Tribe, not the Trump organization and when Trump found out they were lobbying Jeb for it, he called the lobbyist in 1998, and told him to back off Jeb, because Jeb doesn't want casino gambling in Florida.

So Jeb is the one who lied, not Trump. It's quite disappointing to me that our media is now as stupid as our government in that it can't fack-check, it can't discern differences between someone who wants casino gambling and someone who is lobbying for casino gambling, and even when they print the facts, draw the conclusion that is the complete opposite of the actual truth is too complicated for the 30 second sound byte if not completely over their heads to begin with.

The issue today is did Jeb know that he was not lobbied by Donald Trump for casino gambling, and of course he knows he wasn't, but yet he created a lie to try to score points at a debate. These are the people we want to stay away from, Jeb, and of course Carly Fiorina.

Lets take Carly during the debate when the issue of ending the War on Drugs came up. Carly fought for a chance to address the issue and used the death of her husband's daughter by another marriage to claim "she buried a child due to drug addiction". Well, it wasn't her child, it was her husbands, the child was 35 years old when she died, she lived 3,000 miles away from Carly, and she suffered from alcoholism, prescription pain pills and bulimia. Her illness and death had nothing to do with the issue being discussed which was the War on Drugs, which is recreational drugs, specifically they were talking about marijuana, and her "sharing" was completely irrelevant to the discussion, it was a deceptive political exploitation of the death of her husband's daughter whose cause of death had nothing to do with the War on Drugs let alone state marijuana legislation or young children.

So where are the media Fact-Checkers on this one? Nowhere to be found.

Mr Trump should question Jeb's HANGING CHADS voting fiasco and how it conveniently elected his brother to bring us war and debt and a wide open border to bring millions of illegal alien youths here to make anchor babies, receive social services and take jobs Americans needed. He made every state across America like a border state with tons of illegals.

Bush and Cheyney also gave us 911 with buildings imploding not even touched by airplanes and burning airplane fuel does not melt steel. Another convenience, Marvin P. Bush, the president’s younger brother, was a principal in a company called Securacom that provided security for the World Trade Center, United Airlines, and Dulles International Airport - included all WTC buildings, contract expired 12 midnight 9/10/11 - that is total control and access to those buildings immediately prior to the catastrophe allowed to happen.

Jeb is a moma's boy and a liar like his brother. A man in the casino business would of course keep an eye out for new openings - yes, you throw parties and make contributions, you want to be liked and in the circle. So it was a no go - nothing ventured, nothing gained. Jeb did not offer any PROOF of Mr Trump's so called wrongdoing - just a smear tactic because Jeb is desperate for higher poll numbers.
