Two men arrested in Maine for entering U.S. illegally

BOWMANTOWN, Maine
(NEWS CENTER) -- U.S. Border Protection arrested two men in Bowmantown for illegally entering the U.S. from Canada.

Around 2:30 p.m. an agent found two males walking along a dirt road with mountain bikes near the border. The agent started questioning the males, one a U.S. citizen and the other from Lebanon, but a Canadian citizen. The agent discovered they had entered illegally south of the Notre Dame, Canada border crossing area. He arrested both males and took them to the Rangeley Station for processing.

Border Patrol agents turned both men over to Customs and Border Protection officers for fines and penalties at the Coburn Gore port of entry. Customs and Border Protection said that because both men deliberately entered with U.S. without inspection, they were given a $5,000 civil penalty.

The U.S. citizen was released. The citizen of Canada was returned to Canada on an expedited removal via the Woburn, Quebec, port of entry.
