Border Patrol says it found 10 illegal immigrants being smuggled in an empty tractor-trailer Tuesday near San Ygnacio. The immigrants and the driver of the tractor-trailer were detained.

Border Patrol said today that it recently rescued 10 illegal immigrants in an alleged human smuggling attempt.

The incident occurred Tuesday when agents assigned to the Zapata Station were working roving patrol duties in San Ygnacio. Agents encountered a Blue 2003 Ford F-350 pulling an empty tractor trailer. Border Patrol agents then pulled the vehicle over to conduct an immigration inspection.

In the course of the inspection, agents noticed potential modifications to the underside of the trailer. Shortly thereafter, a total of 10 people were found concealed inside. The driver, identified as a 43-year-old man from Cuba, was arrested. The 10 illegal immigrants, all from Mexico, were processed accordingly.

The case has been turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
