AUSTIN -- An accused serial rapist was captured within hours of police releasing his picture. They say he has been victimizing Austin women for at least eight months.

Edgar Casas, 25, was born in Mexico. He has no criminal past, no driver's license, is not married and is being held on an immigration detainer. Now he's at the center of an Austin police investigation.

Casas is connected to at least nine sexual assaults on Austin women over the last several months.

Police got a tip Casas was near a home in North Austin and took him into custody Tuesday night, April 30.

People who live in a North Austin apartment community are now resting a little easier.

"That gave me a lot of relief that took a lot of stress off me," said Tiffany Reeves.

Reeves and her best friend live in one of the apartment complexes Casas is accused of striking. According to an arrest warrant filed in Travis County, Casas raped a 13-year-old girl in a laundry room. A few months later, he sexually assaulted another woman in a laundry room in front of the woman's daughter.

Austin police enlisted the help of the Lonestar Fugitive Taskforce. They found Casas hiding near a home on West Longspur Drive in North Austin and U.S. Marshals took him into custody just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

"Those type of individuals are the core focus of what the taskforce is setup to do...Those are the ones, the predatory offenders," said Hector Gomez with the Lonestar Fugitive Taskforce.

Police say Casas had been staying with a roommate. They do not plan to file any charges against any other people, but they believe there could be more victims.

The Austin Police Department is urging other victims to come forward. Anyone who had contact with Casas is asked to call The Austin Police Department.
