HARLINGEN -

A gang member caught by Border Patrol agents stationed in Harlingen is being processed by authorities in Brownsville. He was caught entering the country illegally over the weekend.

Agents said the man arrested was a member of the 18th Street gang. The gang also has ties to the Sureno 13 gang.

Harlingen agents nabbed the El Salvadorian man Sunday.

They said he admitted to being an 18th Street gang member. Back in November, Border Patrol said they had detained 53 18th Street gang members.

They also said the number of members of this particular gang crossing over has jumped by more than 100 percent.

Also on Sunday, McAllen Border Patrol agents arrested a Honduran man near Hidalgo.

During processing, they found out the man had been arrested in North Carolina and was charged with indecent liberties with a child, also known as indecent exposure.

Both men were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.
