Border Patrol Reports Increase in Number of Immigrants Detained

WESLACO - Border Patrol officials said agents are arresting more illegal immigrants than before.

The agency recently released a video showing dozens of illegal immigrants entering the country illegally.

"It's hard to pinpoint, to identify, the reason or the cause of the increase in apprehensions," Border Patrol Spokesman Daniel Tirado said.

Tirado said the new surveillance aerostats and an increase in manpower could be behind the spike in arrests.

He said agents also are getting more help from the community.

"The best thing you can do is report the suspicious activity. That's the only way to prevent these criminal organizations from operating within our communities," Tirado said.
