CBP Seizes Narcotics Valued at More Than $5 Million

Over $5 million worth of narcotics have been seized by the Laredo Customs and Border Protection over the weekend.

The first seizure was made on Friday at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge. A canine enforcement officer promted agents to pass the suspcious Volkswagen Jetta into secondary inspection where they found 17 packages of heroin hidden within the vehicle. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of up to $4.9 million.

In the same bridge, agents made the second drug bust on Saturday when a 19 year old U.S. Citizen attempted to enter the coutnry as a pedestrian. She was also passed into secondary inspection, where two packages of crystal meth weighing at about 10 pounds were discoverd on her person. The estimated value of the drugs is about $150, 000.

Both, the driver and the pedestrian, were turned over for further investigation to the Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
