HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Deputies said an early morning shooting in southwest Harris County may be related to the smuggling of illegal immigrants.

It was reported around 2:45 a.m. outside a fast food restaurant on Beechnut Street at Eldridge Parkway, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said four individuals were thrown or jumped out of a moving cargo van as it was being shot at by someone in a black sport utility vehicle. Both vehicles fled the scene.

Three of the individuals suffered road rash while the fourth person was shot. All were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to deputies, the individuals told investigators they paid to be smuggled into the United States from Honduras.

Deputies said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would investigate.
