An illegal alien busted last year in Wood County has been sentenced to federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office/Eastern District of Texas, 38-year-old Cruz Alonso Amaya-Bonilla, a citizen of Honduras, pleaded guilty on Sep. 20, 2011, to being a criminal alien who was found unlawfully present in the United States after having been previously deported, and was sentenced today to 41 months in federal prison.

According to information presented in court, Amaya admitted to being a Honduran national who had been deported to Honduras after being convicted of gross sexual assault in the state of Maine on Feb. 20, 2002. On October 10, 2002, Amaya was deported to Honduras and then reentered the United States illegally. On July 7, 2011, he was found by immigration agents in Wood County, Texas, after being arrested for traffic violations by the Texas Department of Public Safety in Wood County on June 28, 2011.

Amaya will be deported following completion of his sentence.
