U.S. Border Patrol Agents Seize More Than $4 Million Worth of Marijuana

Edinburg, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector confiscated more than $4 million worth of marijuana in multiple seizures over the weekend.
One of the largest seizures took place on Friday near Los Ebanos, when agents spotted a pickup truck traveling north away from the Rio Grande. When the driver of the pickup saw the agents approaching, he made an abrupt U-turn and returned to the river; where he abandoned the truck. He was picked up by several people in a raft and taken to Mexico. Inside the vehicle agents found more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

Agents from the Rio Grande City seized more than 700 pounds of marijuana that same day in Fronton. The agents were investigating a report of possible narcotics smuggling in the area when they found a Chevrolet Tahoe with numerous bundles of marijuana inside, abandoned in a field.

Additional seizures pushed the total amount of marijuana seized from Friday through Sunday to more than 5,000 pounds.
