U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter (08/24/2011)

Border Patrol agents seized more than 20,501 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested five criminal aliens and 14 gang members. There was one rocking incident.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico who was hiding in the brush near Penitas, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for second-degree sexual offense against a child and had been removed previously from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 729 pounds of marijuana and a Dodge Durango after observing the vehicle’s occupants acting suspiciously near Pharr, Texas. As agents approached the vehicle, it turned south toward Mexico in an effort to flee from agents. As it reached the Rio Grande River, several subjects fled from the vehicle and jumped into the water. Agents and state law enforcement officers observed two subjects go under the water, but did not see them resurface. The local fire department responded to the scene, but a search for the subjects was negative.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Carnal gang member and records checks revealed he had been removed previously from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC), and seized 4,824 pounds of marijuana and a 2005 tanker-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed the marijuana.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Imperial Beach, California. Records checks revealed the subject is a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member and had been removed previously from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC, and seized 2,149 pounds of marijuana and a 2007 tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,141 pounds of marijuana near Garceno, Texas. Agents on patrol duties discovered the marijuana concealed under a tarp. A search of the area for subjects or vehicles was negative.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico who claimed to have been robbed in the United States by a group of six unarmed men near Douglas, Arizona. The subjects claimed that the bandits pushed them down and robbed them of their money and possessions. No injuries were reported and local law enforcement officers are investigating the incident.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being an El Monte Flores gang member and records checks revealed he had been removed previously from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and a national of Mexico, and seized 1,294 pounds of marijuana and a tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sierra Vista, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14 and had been removed from the United States previously.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject is a Brown Pride Locos gang member and had been removed previously from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. The subject claimed to have been part of a group of eight illegal aliens transporting marijuana when they were robbed by five armed men. The bandits fired two rounds, and the subject and the rest of the illegal aliens dropped the marijuana and fled without injury. Local law enforcement officers are investigating the incident.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fabens, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Los Paisas gang member. Records checks revealed he had been removed previously from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 6,094 pounds of marijuana and a 1995 tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan of the trailer using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,199 pounds of marijuana after encountering several subjects carrying bundles of marijuana near Santa Margarita, Texas. As agents identified themselves to the subjects, the subjects dropped the bundles and fled into the brush. A search for the subjects and more narcotics was negative.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after responding to a request for assistance from a concerned citizen near Pisinemo, Arizona. The subject claimed he was part of a group of 15 illegal aliens who were robbed at gunpoint by an unknown number of individuals after illegally entering the United States. The subject claimed to have been struck on the head and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Local law enforcement officers are investigating the incident.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Somalia at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been deported previously from the United States. Records checks also revealed the subject is a True Somali Bloods gang member with an active warrant for assault in Oregon.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Simon, Arizona. During processing the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member. Records checks revealed he had a significant criminal history.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Latin King gang member. Records checks revealed he had been removed previously from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two USCs and seized $122,251, one AK-47 rifle, one S&W Body Guard handgun, a small amount of marijuana, and a Ford F-250 truck at the traffic checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies. Agents searched the truck and discovered the currency, narcotics, and weapons.


Grand Forks Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico after the subjects were detained by local law enforcement officers near Williston, North Dakota. Records checks revealed one subject had a prior conviction for murder and weapons violations in the state of Texas and had been removed previously from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,369 pounds of marijuana and a Ford truck near San Ygnacio, Texas. Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop near a boat ramp; however, the driver successfully absconded to Mexico. A search of the truck revealed the marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Paisas street gang member and records checks revealed he had been removed previously from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Bisbee, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction from rape and had been removed previously from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and seized 1,702 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet pickup after agents attempted a vehicle stop near Rio Rico, Arizona. The subject failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens, and ran from the vehicle after crashing into a chain-link fence. Local law enforcement officers discovered the subject in the vicinity of the incident, and no injuries were reported. A search of the truck revealed the marijuana.
