U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (11/10/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 25,356 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested 13 criminal aliens and six gang members. There were nine rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had previously been removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Fabens, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for indecency with a child and had previously been removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of California, and had previously been removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of Washington, and had previously been removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near the Columbus, New Mexico Port of Entry. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including convictions for false imprisonment, sexual offenses, assault with deadly weapon, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents, along with other federal law enforcement partners, discovered a tunnel near the Otay Mesa, California Port of Entry. The tunnel originated in Mexico and terminated inside a warehouse in the United States. In a related incident, Border Patrol agents also seized 19,439 pounds of marijuana from a tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint in Temecula, California.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a small amount of marijuana, hashish, a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol, ammunition, and arrested a United States Citizen (ESC) at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered the narcotics and the weapon/ammunition. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior felony conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 2,887 pounds of marijuana at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the tractor-trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology identified anomalies within the conveyance, and a subsequent search uncovered the bundles of marijuana concealed inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, with prior convictions for assault, kidnapping and burglary. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,047 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered the marijuana hidden in the trailer, and a loaded pistol in the tractor.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico and seized 199 pounds of marijuana near Douglas, Arizona. Agents observed an ultralight aircraft (ULA) incursion and tracked the aircraft, which dropped a basket and returned to Mexico. Agents responded to the drop site and discovered nine bundles of marijuana and the subject concealed in the brush.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 91 pounds of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, a loaded revolver, a Ford minivan, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Tombstone, Arizona. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a consensual search of the vehicle revealed the cocaine, the revolver and the marijuana. Records checks revealed one of the subjects had numerous felony convictions and an active warrant of arrest for probation violation.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender and had previously been removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 213 pounds of marijuana, a Ford truck, and arrested two USCs near Fort Hancock, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle leaving the Rio Grande River area and attempted a vehicle stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. An agent attempted to deploy a controlled tire deflation device but had to take cover when the driver attempted to strike the agent with his vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop in an irrigation canal and the subjects were taken into custody. The marijuana was found in the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 480 pounds of marijuana and one M-4 rifle with a magazine and ammunition near Gila Bend, Arizona. The narcotics and weapon were found abandoned in the desert.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested eight illegal aliens from Mexico near Calexico, California. The subjects claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint by two bandits in Mexico prior to their illegal entry. The case was referred to the appropriate authorities for investigation.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ft. Hancock, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for aggravated sexual battery of a child issued in the state of Texas. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 29 illegal aliens in the brush near Sarita, Texas. During the arrest, the two agents were assaulted by four suspected smugglers. One of the attackers was able to abscond, but agents subdued the remaining three and took all 29 subjects into custody without further incident. During processing, a female subject from the group stated she had been sexually assaulted by one of the smugglers. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the case was referred to local authorities for investigation.
