Check this out. This says she was born in Taiwan.

Check out her attempts to cheat American Workers out of their "automatic" over-time pay trying to raise the minimum salary for eligibility from $8,000 a year to $22,000 a year ???? cutting out all white collar employees and military personnel ??????

Am I hallucinating or is this for real? Anyone earning less than $22,000 a year would not have been eligible for over-time under her Proposal? That is what it says. Thank God It Didn't Pass...but we've sure got her number now.

That is without question PURE EVIL.

Throw this bum out on her bum....PINK-SLIP HER NOW!!

Who in the heck does she think she is? Did she really think the American People pay her big cat salary to cut theirs? This woman is no American.

This woman is PURE EVIL!! We can't believe one figure coming out of her office.

Elaine Chao might have been born in Taipei, Taiwan....but her father according to Wikipedia was a Shanghai businessman from mainland China. Maybe they were on a "vacation".

She is Chinese from China. She was according to the Wikipedia raised in the United States since she was 8.

Would an Americanized Immigrant propose raising the minimum salary for automatic over time eligibility from $8,000 to $22,000 a year depriving the most vulnerable of over-time protection under federal law?

    NOT!!

NO AMERICAN WOULD DEVISE SUCH A SCHEME!!

Labor is America and America is Labor. Therefore, any act to diminish, disempower, decrease, deflate, weaken or harm AMERICAN LABOR is an act of Treason against the People of the United States...because WE are Labor and Labor IS America.

Keep your Eyes Glued To This Woman and her "REPORTS"!!

Here is the link to the US Department of Labor that describes "who is counted as unemployed" in their statistics.

    The criteria:

"Persons are classified as unemployed if they do not have a job, have "actively" looked for work in the prior 4 weeks, and are available for work."

To be counted, you have to go around to at least 3 employers and get them to sign a form that you appeared and tried to find a job. Then you carry these forms down to the local ESC office and get your check until the money runs out. When you are out of benefits, few go through this ordeal. They still look for work, they just don't ask for the forms to be signed and certainly don't bother taking them to the ESC office. Why would they?

    Also:

"Persons who were not working and were waiting to be called back to a job from which they had been temporarily laid off."

It's not clear whether these who defined as unemployed are being counted. They are not listed as being counted. When I had to close my warehouse operation, my employees were on a program for part-time unemployed where we had to reduce hours and they could receive a partial unemployment check. Then they went on full temporary unemployment while we tried to find new customers and during this period they ran out of benefits. Soon after, it was clear that with the closing of many plants who were potential new customers that we could service with our warehouse operation, there were more services available in our community than potential customers and we suspended operations indefinitely. According to this link, my employees who were on temporary unemployment waiting for a recall were apparently not counted as available for work.

Our local ESC office keeps their records for two years I was told. But according to this, the Bureau of Labor Statistics drops them off every 4 weeks if they don't present their forms proving they were "actively" looking for work.

Jose, perhaps you have some better information to share with the forum so we can better understand what a federal unemployment rate really means.

For example, last year this time our unemployment rate in our county was almost 13%. This year it is 9% and we've lost another 1,000 manufacturing jobs since this time last year. There has been 1 new industry open up hiring 25 people. All the construction jobs are now 100% hispanic new arrivals that don't speak English--presumed illegals and with all the "advocacy" for undocumented workers, this appears to be the case. These jobs used to be filled with American Workers. Our unemployment rate is the second highest in the state. Last year, this time, we were the third highest in the state.
In other words, length of unemployment and whether or not benefits are being collected is not a factor in determining the unemployment rate

Jose, maybe you can explain how our unemployment rate went down since last year when unemployment went up. That would be very helpful to our trying to understand how many unemployed legal workers we have in our county and might help others across the country trying to get a handle on this as well.
The unemployment rate usually follows the business cycle.

The non seasonally adjusted figures aren't very difficult to look up. A few clicks of the mouse will tell you that the unadjusted figures are generally higher in some months and lower in others.

What exactly is the purpose of a "seasonal adjustment" from your viewpoint?
    To make it comparable

Jose, I see your viewpoint. It's like looking at the glass and calling it half full or half empty.

U.S. jobless claims drop sharply last week

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell by an unexpectedly sharp 34,000 last week, the largest drop since 2002, due in part to fewer auto-sector layoffs, a government report showed on Thursday.

First-time claims for state unemployment insurance aid fell to 303,000 in the week ended July 16 from a revised 337,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said.

It was the largest one-week decline since December 2002 and brought new claims to the lowest level since April.

Wall Street had expected a far smaller decrease to 327,000 from the original reading of 336,000 in the week ended July 9.

A Labor Department analyst said there were no special factors behind the large drop, but noted the number of new claims from the automobile sector was smaller than the previous week.

The closely watched four-week moving average, which smoothes weekly volatility to provide a better sense of the pace of layoffs, fell to 318,000 from 321,250 in the prior week.

The number of people who remain on the benefit rolls after drawing an initial week of aid fell 41,000 to 2.58 million in the week ended July 9, the latest for which figures were available

TMS--P. S. As you can imagine, I do not believe these employment figures either. There is no way claims dropped unless they ran out of benefits and fell off which means there is a huge number of unemployed not being counted or discussed or considered by the counters, our Labor Department or our Governments.
