US deported over 40,000 Guatemalans in 2012

Representatives of the National Organization for Migration in Guatemala (MENAMIG) reported that during 2012, the US deported 40,079 Guatemalans. 2,747 are women, and 586 are children.
The immigration officials stated that the deportations of undocumented Guatemalan immigrants from the United States increased 27% in 2012, compared to 2011. According to the Foreign Ministry, 1.3 million Guatemalans, 60% of them undocumented are currently living in the US.
