EL PASO, Texas — A witness has testified that a man kidnapped in 2009 in El Paso and found dead in Mexico was a drug dealer who got in trouble with his bosses after a marijuana cargo was seized by U.S. authorities.
Using an assumed name in the trial of two men accused of abducting Sergio Saucedo, the witness said in federal court Tuesday that he was friends with Saucedo and both had trafficked drugs for at least 16 years.
A judge agreed to let the witness remain anonymous because of safety concerns. The witness said owners of a 670-pound marijuana shipment were angry at Saucedo for lying about the drug seizure.
Rafael Vega and Cesar Obregon-Reyes are accused of abducting Saucedo from in front of his house in El Paso.
