Woman gets 10 year for helping illegal aliens get N.M. driver's licenses
Woman sentenced in illegal driver’s license ring

ALBUQUERQUE — A woman who claims to be a pawn in the politics of immigration has been sentenced to 10 years for forging affidavits that authorities say allowed 44 illegal immigrants to get New Mexico driver’s licenses.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (ABQJournal Online » License Forgery Case Defendant Gets 10 Years) Ana Hernandez was sentenced Thursday to a decade behind bars to be followed by five years of probation after pleading guilty to 10 of 324 charges in an indictment returned last year.
The 46-year-old Mexican born naturalized U.S. citizen is accused of signing affidavits that falsely said the applicants lived at her business address.
Hernandez’s attorney, Scott Mullins, says his client, who was one of 42 individuals named in the indictment, was singled out because of politics.
“Gov. Susana Martinez used the defendant as a vehicle to criticize the former governor’s inability to prevent the licensure of ‘illegal’ immigrants,” he said in a sentencing affidavit. The state’s decision to target Hernandez “shows overzealousness (in) charging and the dangerous interference of (anti)immigration politics in the administration of justice.”
Martinez has made three unsuccessful attempts to repeal the state law that allows illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses. She has cited Hernandez’s case as particularly troubling because she has been charged separately in a heroin trafficking ring.
She said heroin comes to the state through cartel activity, so it is “reasonable” to worry that the state law allowing illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses could aid that activity.
After her sentencing, Hernandez told the Journal she helped people get driver’s licenses because they were desperate.

10 years is not enough for someone who has betrayed her new citizenship, what it should apply is to lose her citizenship for traitor.
Illegal immigration is a serious problem compared to a virus or a plague if we don't fight it on time the consequences would be catastrophic.
