Women Crossing Illegally Reject Help from Border Patrol

SOUTH OF MISSION – The Respite Center in downtown McAllen for families released by Border Patrol said they are continuing to see more than 100 people a day.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS went to the Rio Grande to see if we could find families crossing the border illegally.

The winding dirt roads of Rincon Village in South Mission lead straight to the Rio Grande. The location is one of the popular spots to cross the river.

A CHANNEL 5 NEWS team drove around for about 20 miles before finding two sun-burned, heat exhausted women.

The 20 and 42-year-old said they had just crossed the river.

“We are fleeing the violence of our country,” said one of the women.

Both claimed to be from Guatemala. They said they didn’t have the money to pay a smuggler, so they came on their own with only $250 and a small bag of belongings.

“If we return, they will kill us,” said one. “They started to threaten us. So we decided to leave.”

The women said coming to the U.S. was their only option. They also said people in their home country told them women with children can walk free into the U.S.

The women said they didn’t want to be caught by authorities for fear of deportation. They said they are trying to meet their families in Los Angeles.

“They only told us to look for a ranch. That they would be able to give us water there,” one of the women said.

The CHANNEL 5 NEWS crew offered several times to call Border Patrol to come and pick them up, but they refused. We gave the two women all the water we had and saw them continue their journey.

Twenty minutes after, a Border Patrol unit passed. It is unclear if the women were picked up, whether they’ll make it to California or be sent back to Central America.

The hundreds of people who are released by federal authorities with a notice to appear in immigration court are all families.

The women who were interviewed on Friday said that if they had children with them, they would have wanted to find Border Patrol agents.

This is all false hype, a big con game being perpetuated by the lawless engineered by the drug cartels they work for and their families work for who are already here.
