A new, exclusive 11Alive-SurveyUSA poll has taken a look at illegal immigration and the perceptions surrounding immigrants increased presence in the United States.

We asked a number of questions in the survey of 500 people around Metro Atlanta -- the first: “True or false -- Most illegal immigrants are hard-working people trying to create a better life.”

78% - True
17% - False
4% - Not Sure

The next question we asked was, “True or false -- If the United States deported everyone who was in the country illegally, America would be a better place.”

42% - True
47% - False
11% - Not Sure

Next we asked about perceptions about securing the Mexican border with the United States. “True or false -- If we build a wall on the Mexican border, all of our immigration problems will be solved.”

9% - Not Sure

We also asked about border security in relation to terrorism. “True or false -- If we build a wall on the Mexican border, the risk of terrorism will go down.”

Finally, we asked about economic costs versus benefits. “True or false -- The economic costs associated with having illegal immigrants in the United States outweigh the economic benefits.”

The survey was conducted with 500 adults in Metro Atlanta, and contains an average margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
