Why not instead of "transforming" the Republican Party, (you sound like Van Jones and Barack Obama wanting to "transform" the United States"), why not take your conservative principles and start a Social Conservative Party? Isn't there already an American Conservatives Union?

Yeah, here it is, right here.

    http://www.conservative.org/

    "Overview

"The American Conservative Union is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots conservative lobbying organization. ACU's purpose is to communicate and advance the goals and principles of conservatism through one multi-issue, umbrella organization. ACU's Statement of Principles expresses our commitment to a market economy, the doctrine of original intent of the framers of the Constitution, traditional moral values, and a strong national defense.

"Since 1964, ACU has been on the cutting edge of major public policy battles. Our most significant efforts, past and present, include fighting to keep OSHA off the backs of small businesses; opposing the Panama Canal giveaway; challenging the SALT treaties; supporting aid to freedom fighters in communist countries; promoting the confirmation of conservative justices to the Supreme Court; advocating near-term deployment of strategic defenses; and battling against higher taxes and wasteful government spending.

"Additionally, in 1994, through its Citizens against Rationing Health coalition, sponsorship of national town meetings, and Health Care Truth Tour, ACU spearheaded the conservative response to the Clintons' health-care proposals.

"Whether fighting for lower taxes and less government spending, supporting more effective and efficient military protection, or defending the cause of freedom worldwide, the American Conservative Union seeks to promote the national conservative movement and to be the conservative voice in Washington."

    "Classical republicanism

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_republicanism

"Classical republicanism is a form of republicanism originating from and inspired by the governmental forms and writings of classical antiquity. After a gaping centuries-long period of neglect due to unique arrangements of medieval feudalism lasting until the Renaissance[1], its main ideas were recovered and went on to flourish during Classicism and Enlightenment.

"In the classical period itself the term republicanism did not exist, however the term res publica, which translates literally as "things public," was in usage. There were a number of theorists who wrote on political philosophy during this period such as Aristotle, Polybius, and Cicero,[2] and their ideas became the essential core of classical republicanism. The ideology of republicanism blossomed during the Italian Renaissance, most notably in Florence, when a number of authors looked back to the classical period and used its examples to formulate ideas about ideal governance. Most prominent among these was Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527).[3] It has also been said that Machiavelli is not a classical republican, since he described rather medieval political relations.[4] That classical republicanism actually refers to a philosophy developed primarily in the early modern period is acknowledged by many scholars to be confusing; hence some now use the term early modern republicanism to cover this branch of political thought.

"Classical republicanism is also known as civic humanism, a term first employed by the German scholar of late medieval and early modern Italian history, Hans Baron.[5] And although in certain cases and with certain scholars there is a subtle distinction between the two, they are for all intents and purposes interchangeable. Civic humanism is slightly wider in scope and stresses the central role of civic virtue in the preservation of the classically Roman/Florentine ideal of political liberty. Leading exponents of this dual concept are Hannah Arendt, J. G. A. Pocock, Quentin Skinner, and Philip Pettit.[6] According to Baron, for many years the foremost expert on the development of classical republicanism, the ideology was a product of the long conflict between Florence and Milan.[7] Florence was ruled by its commercial elites while Milan was a monarchy controlled by its landed aristocracy. The Florentines asserted that their form of government was superior on the basis that it was more similar to that of the Greeks and the Roman Republic. Moreover, Leonardo Bruni (1370-1444) asserted, based on Tacitus's pronouncements in the introduction to the Histories, that republican government made better men, whereas monarchy was inimical to human virtue (see Tacitean studies). The Florentine ideal developed into the ideology of civic humanism, as per Baron.[8]

"Since Thomas Hobbes, at the core of republicanism is the concept of the social contract. Although modern republicanism rejected monarchy (whether hereditary or otherwise autocratic) in favour of rule by the people, classical republicanism treated monarchy as one form of government among others. Classical republicanism was rather aimed against any form of tyranny, whether monarchic, aristocratic, or democratic (tyranny of the majority). The notions of what constituted an ideal republic to classical republicans themselves depended on personal view. However, the most ideal republic featured form of mixed government and was based on the pursuit of civility.

"Most controversial is the classical republican view of liberty and how, or if, this view differed from that later developed by liberalism. Previously, many scholars accepted the stance of Isaiah Berlin that republicanism was tilted more toward positive liberty rather than the negative liberty characterizing liberalism.[9] In recent years this thesis has been challenged, and Philip Pettit argues that republican liberty is based upon "non-domination" while liberal freedom is based upon "non-interference." Another view is that liberalism views liberty as pre-social while classical republicans saw true liberty as a product of society. Because liberty was an important part of republican thought, many republican thinkers were appropriated by theory of classical liberalism.

"Classical republicanism became extremely popular in the Classicism and Enlightenment, playing a central role in the thought of political philosophy since Hobbes, through John Locke, Giambattista Vico, Montesquieu, Rousseau, until Kant. It was also the basis for the work of the Founding Fathers of the United States, and as such, was and remains the enduring basis of the national and state governments."

Our country was founded by Republicans. Our second revolution was completed by Republican with the formation of the Republican Party. Our country was built and developed into the greatest economic superpower with the highest standard of living the world has ever known based on the political philosophy of classical republicanism and classical liberalism.

All the progress our country has made from its sovereignty to freedom to equal rights to economic prosperity has been based upon republicanism, not conservatism. Conservatism is the complete opposite of everything our country has accomplished in the past 233 years. We owe our nation, our freedoms and our prosperity to Republicans. And no matter how disgruntled the ReMax housing realtor in Charlotte, who wrote that article, may be, who I'm sure was as happy as a pig in his pen rooting out his sales commissions during the housing boom selling more than his fair share of houses sold to illegal aliens and visa immigrants with sub-prime loans he arranged many of which created the bubble that burst and caused our financial failure last year, there's no rewriting the "rules" of the history of the United States, the Republican principles upon which it is based or the Republicans who created the greatest nation on earth.

And those people were Big Tent people with Big Ideas who were willing then and their descendants are still willing today, to risk everything for what they believe in which are liberty and prosperity in a liberal republic.

By the way, our country has already fought the battles between Conservatism and Republicanism. It was called the Civil War, and the Republicans won. Don't think for a second that the people who founded the Republican Party are going to hand it back over to Conservatives to be "transformed" so you can take our country back to the Darkness the Republican Party led out nation out of 153 years ago and every day since to keep it that way.

Because that just won't happen. But if you want your own party, then just form one. Then you can have consensus among yourselves and clear platforms that aren't muddled with the principles that founded the United States, and can give the voters Clear Choices at the ballot box.
