1 Dead, at Least 28 Wounded in Chicago Weekend Shootings

Three people were shot in the 3300 block of West Monroe early Saturday morning

One person is dead and at least 28 others have been hurt in shootings across Chicago this weekend, according to police.
Early Sunday morning, a 22-year-old man was inside of a Subway restaurant in the 4000 block of East 106th Street when he got into an argument with five-to-six men, police said.
During the argument, one of the men pulled out a weapon and shot the victim in the head.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the group fled the scene in a black SUV. No suspects are in custody, and Area South Detectives are investigating.
In a shooting early Saturday in the 3300 block of West Monroe, three people were standing on a sidewalk when they were shot by a man standing on a gangway, police said.
A 28-year-old man was shot in the legs and abdomen and is listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai, and another victim, a 38-year-old man, was shot in the back and legs and is in serious condition at Stroger.
Police say a third victim was shot in the legs, and is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.

Friday –


  • Just before 3:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Ashland, two teens were standing on a sidewalk when three men approached them and opened fire. A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the head and neck area, and is in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg and is in stable condition, police said.
  • In the 3100 block of West Polk Street at approximately 6:12 p.m., a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were in a vehicle when they were approached by a man, who pulled out a gun and began shooting. Both victims were treated for minor injuries, according to police.


Saturday –


  • Police say that a 20-year-old man was walking in the 3200 block of South Lowe just before 2 a.m. when a person in a red sedan fired shots, striking him in the left armpit. He is in stable condition at Stroger.
  • At 3:15 a.m. in the 5300 block of West Ferdinand, a 26-year-old man was walking when he heard shots. The man was shot in the left hand and left leg, police said, and is in stable condition at Mount Sinai.
  • In the 1600 block of East 79th Street, two men were shot at approximately 10:12 a.m., police said. The men were shot after two men got out of a maroon sedan and began firing. A 49-year-old man was shot in the chest, and a 23-year-old man was shot in his shoulder and buttocks. Both were listed in serious condition.
  • At approximately 4:48 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot while walking in the alley in the 200 block of East 70th Street, police said. The victim was approached by two unknown male offenders. One of them fired shots in his direction. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
  • Police say that a 28-year-old man was walking in the 5100 block of West Chicago at approximately 8:19 p.m. when he was approached by a man who pulled out a gun and shot him twice in the hand. The man was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition.
  • In the 800 block of West 50th Street at approximately 9:47 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago in stable condition.
  • At approximately 11:09 p.m. in the 100 block of West 109th Street, a 36-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot in the hip. Police said the man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

Sunday -


  • A 22-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 5000 block of West Madison when a person in a passing red vehicle opened fire, striking him in the shoulder. The man was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, police said.
  • In the 500 block of North Menard at approximately 1:35 a.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the leg, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • Police say that a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 5600 block of South Wabash. The man is believed to have been attending a party when a man walked up to him and shot him.
  • At approximately 2:45 a.m. in the 700 block of North Harding, three people were on the porch of a residence during a house party when a person fired shots from the sidewalk, police said. All three victims were hit in the legs by the gunfire, and all three were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.
  • A 17-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were passengers in a vehicle when a person in a dark-colored sedan opened fire, striking both victims, police said. Both are in good condition after the shooting, which occurred in the 3700 block of South Damen.
  • A 24-year-old woman was walking in the 6300 block of South Rockwell at approximately 4:15 a.m. when she was shot in the shoulder. Police say the woman didn't see where the shots came from, and she is listed in good condition at Mount Sinai.
  • At approximately 2:10 p.m. in the 200 block of South Lavernge, a 17-year-old male was standing on a sidewalk when two offenders approached in a vehicle, exited and fired shots in the victim's direction, police said. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his arms and hand and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
  • In the 5700 block of South LaSalle at approximately 4:20 p.m., a 55-year-old man was standing on the street when someone in a light-colored van pulled up, and fired shots, according to police. The victim was taken to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right foot and listed in good condition.
  • Officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 6500 block of South Marshfield at approximately 8:45 p.m. found a 26-year-old man who had been shot in his chest and back, authorities said. The man was taken to the University of Chicago, where he is listed in critical condition.
  • At approximately 10:02 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Spaulding, a 17-year-old boy was sitting in a parked car when a person in a passing SUV fired shots at him, striking him in the leg. Police say the boy was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
