2 dead, 12 wounded in shootings across Chicago

2 dead, 12 wounded in separate shootings across Chicago since Wednesday morning

Two men were killed and at least 12 other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Wednesday morning.

Most recently, a 20-year-old man was shot to death near a Marathon gas station in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.


About 2:08 a.m. Thursday, police were called to a gas station in the 100 block of South Cicero Avenue and found the man unresponsive, police said.


The man, 20, was standing outside when a gunman approached on foot and opened fire, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.


RAW: 18 year old woman shot on Far South Side

Following the shooting, police taped off the gas station as they investigated a silver sedan with a shattered driver's side window. Several small pieces of white paper, indicating shell casings and other evidence, were on the ground next to the car.
Earlier, a 43-year-old man, identified as Juan Warrior, was found fatally shot on a sidewalk next to an elementary school's parking lot in the Gresham neighborhood, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
About 12:30 a.m., police responded to a call of a man shot in the 8100 block of South Normal Avenue and found him on the sidewalk near Westcott Elementary School.
Warrior, of the 6500 block South Wolcott Avenue, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead on the scene at 12:49 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner's office.

As of early Thursday, the 20-year-old had yet to be identified, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
In the latest nonfatal shooting, a 21-year-old man was shot shortly before midnight in West Garfield Park. About 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, the man was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 700 block of South Kostner Avenue when someone walked up and fired shots, Gaines said.
The man was shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition later stabilized, police said.

Uptown shooting

About 11:25 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in Bronzeville. He was shot repeatedly in his body in the 4600 block of South Indiana Avenue and then took himself to University of Chicago hospital. The man was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized.
No other details about the shooting were available as of early Thursday.
About 11 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in Edgewater Beach neighborhood on the Far North Side. The man was standing outside in the 5700 block of North Kenmore Avenue when someone walked up and opened fire, hitting the man multiple times.
The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where his condition stabilized, police said.
About 10 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet in the Gresham neighborhood. The woman was standing outside in the 8600 block of South Carpenter Street when she heard gunshots and felt pain, Gaines said. The woman's side had been grazed by a bullet, and she was treated at the scene and released, police said.

Just a few blocks away, around 9 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the 8000 block of South Carpenter Street, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.
The man was shot in the arm, hand and groin but managed to run away to the 8200 block of South Ashland Avenue, where paramedics found him and took him in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center inOak Lawn.
Also at 9 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 800 block of North Kostner Avenue on the West Side, Sweeney said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
At 8:05 p.m., a shooting occurred in the 4700 block of West Ohio Street on the West Side, said Sweeney.
A 16-year-old boy was sitting in a vehicle when someone came up and began shooting, hitting the boy in the leg. The teen was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Earlier, at 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Homan Avenue a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg and chest, Sweeney said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, he said.
A 17-year-old girl was shot in the chest in an afternoon shooting on the Far South Side in the Morgan Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of West 111th Place, Sweeney said, citing preliminary information.
He said the teen suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center.
About 5 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 5700 block of South Michigan Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood.
The man told police he was walking with his girlfriend when a green four-door car drove by and someone in the car started shooting.
He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center and was listed in good condition, police said.
In the Uptown neighborhood, a 25-year-old man was shot in the arm about 4:50 p.m. The man told police he was standing with a friend in the 4500 block of North Clarendon Avenue when a gunman walked up and fired shots, police said.
He was taken to Illinois Masonic in good condition. Police said the man had been shot in 2009 and 2011.
On Wednesday morning, a 29-year-old man was wounded in a gang-related shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.
The man walked into Saint Bernard Hospital about 10:30 a.m. He told police he was shot in the 6200 block of South Artesian Avenue on the Southwest Side, police said.
He suffered leg and hip wounds, police said.
