4 killed, 15 wounded in weekend shootings

Four people were killed and at least fifteen others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening, authorities said.

An Evanston man was killed overnight Sunday on the city's South Side, police said.


About 12:25 a.m., the 46-year-old man was found dead in the city's South Shore neighborhood, police said.

Officers found the man in the 3000 block of East Cheltenham Place with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene, and the death has been classified as a homicide investigation, said Chicago Police Department news affairs Officer Amina Greer.

The man was identified as Andrew Brown, of the 1400 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.


About 6:10 a.m. Monday, a 32-year-old man walked into John H. Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, said police news affairs Officer Ana Pacheco.


The man told police he had been shot in the 3900 block of West Lexington Street in the Lawndale neighborhood on the city's West Side. He was listed in serious condition, Pacheco said.


An hour earlier, an 18-year-old man walked into St. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after he had been shot.

The teen told police he was shot in the 1600 block of North Hamlin Avenue in Logan Square. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his left thigh, Pacheco said.


About 12:10 a.m., a 28-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in West Town, police said.


About 12:10 a.m., the man was in a white sedan in a parking lot in the 1200 block of West Randolph Street when a white car pulled alongside and someone inside announced a robbery, Greer said.


The victim fled the parking lot in the car, and a gunman inside the other car opened fire, striking the man in his arm and chest, police said.


The victim crashed into a median in the 700 block of West Randolph Street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.


On Sunday, five people were wounded in shootings, police said. From Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, two people were killed and three others were wounded in shootings.


Two more people were killed and four others, three of them teenagers, were injured in shootings, from Friday evening through Saturday morning.


Also on Saturday, an Englewood man was shot during a confrontation with police after authorities said he refused to put down a gun. The 32-year-old man was later charged with aggravated assault with a weapon to a peace officer after police officer.
