8 shot, none fatally, in Chicago’s 1st weekend in 2019 with no known gun murders

At least eight people were wounded and none were killed in citywide shootings this weekend, marking the year’s first weekend with no reported gun homicides.
However, at least two people were in critical condition from gunshot wounds this weekend.
Most recently, a 21-year-old man was critically wounded by gunfire in what police say seemed like a drug-related confrontation Monday morning in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A male shot the 21-year-old in the neck as he was walking at 2:52 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Kedvale, according to Chicago police. The 21-year-old was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
The shooting unfolded during a possible “narcotics-related” exchange that was botched, a police source said.
An 81-year-old man was also in critical condition Saturday morning after a woman shot him in the South Chicago neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The two of them were arguing and got into a physical struggle inside a home at 1:55 a.m. in the 8500 block of South Phillips, police said. During the fight, the woman fired a gun at the 81-year-old’s face. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center.
Officers arrested the woman, who is believed to have known the man she shot, police said. Charges are pending.

At night, a 22-year-old man was wounded by gunfire during an attempted robbery in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The 22-year-old pulled out a knife, prompting one of the males to shoot him in the lower left leg, police said.
On Saturday, a 65-year-old man was shot in the back during the afternoon in Washington Park on the South Side.
The man was wounded by gunfire at 1:01 p.m. after he refused to let two people into his home in 5900 block of South Indiana Avenue, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
A man showed up at Stroger Hospital Saturday morning with a gunshot wound to the back of the head that he said he sustained while on the Near West Side. At 5:09 a.m., the 25-year-old man said he was walking in the 200 block of South Damen Avenue when he suddenly felt pain and realized he had been shot, police said.

At 12:43 a.m., a 59-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were sitting inside a parked vehicle in the 12000 block of South State Street when an armed male walked over, police said.
