Arby’s apology NOT accepted; police union furious as details about anti-cop incident come out

Despite an apology from the fast food company, a South Florida police union is calling for a national boycott of the Arby’s restaurant chain after a police officer said she was told that an employee did not want to serve her because she is a cop.
The Dade County Police Benevolent Association is calling for the boycott following an incident between Pembroke Pines Police Sgt. Jennifer Martin and Arby’s employee Kenny Davenport.

As details of the incident emerged, it became even more disturbing.

    The Miami Herald reported:
According to a police report on the incident, the police officer was told by the manager, “(Davenport) doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer.”
After that, the officer said she wasn’t certain she wanted to dine at the restaurant, but the manager assured her everything was fine and handed the officer the food, according to the report.
The manager allegedly laughed about it and said the clerk was allowed to refuse to serve the officer.

That’s when the officer said she was unsure about the condition of her food, decided not to eat there and asked for a refund, the report states.

Pembroke Pines Police Chief Dan Giustino didn’t see the humor in the incident.

“I am offended and appalled that an individual within our community would treat a police officer in such a manner,” Giustino said. “It is unacceptable.”

In calling for the boycott, Dade County Police Benevolent Association president John Rivera demanded that the employees involved be fired.

“It is beyond comprehension and deeply troubling that a business would deny service to a law enforcement officer just for being a law enforcement officer,” Rivera said in a statement. “This is yet another example of the hostile treatment of our brave men and women simply because they wear a badge.”

And he makes it clear an apology alone will not do.

“It is unacceptable and warrants much more than an apology,” he added. “We support our brothers and sisters who wear the badge in Broward County and across the United States. Until corrective action is taken and the employees involved in this incident are terminated, we’re calling for a national boycott of Arby’s.”

Arby's fires manager, suspends clerk who allegedly refused to serve Florida police officer

    Published September 04, 2015 FoxNews.com

The Arby's fast food chain announced late Thursday that it had fired a Florida restaurant manager and suspended a clerk after a female police officer said she had been denied service because she was a cop.

Arby's spokesman Jason Rollins confirmed to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that manager Angel Mirabal, 22, and clerk Kenneth Davenport, 19, had been disciplined.

The chain known for its roast beef sandwiches became the center of a national firestorm after an incident Tuesday night, when Pembroke Pines Police Sgt. Jennifer Martin, 34, pulled up to the drive-thru and ordered a meal. When she handed over her credit card to pay,

Davenport allegedly refused to ring her order up. That prompted Mirabal to say "He doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer."

Sgt. Martin finally received her food, but said she was too uncomfortable to eat it, so she returned it and got a refund. The next day, the department tweeted about the incident, which Chief Dan Giustino called "unacceptable."

"I am offended and appalled that an individual within our community would treat a police officer in such a manner," he said in a statement.

Davenport has said the controversy stemmed from a misunderstanding, and Maribal's comment was an attempt at a joke.

Davenport told the Sun-Sentinel he was unable to ring up Martin's order due to the number of other customers he was servicing. He said Mirabal made his remark after Davenport asked him for help with the transaction.

"We don't hate cops,” Davenport told reporters Wednesday. "We don't hate anybody. We're just trying to get people out of the drive-thru."

On Thursday, WSVN reported that Arby's rivals took advantage of the flap between the police and the restaurant. McDonald's partnered with a local radio station to deliver bags of pancakes and Egg McMuffins to the department Thursday morning. The station reported that a local Whole Foods store put out a spread of its own, while residents supplied donuts and coffee from a local Dunkin' Donuts.

"We're here today to show our love for the community and the people that take care of us as first responders in the community," one woman said.

I wish the "firestorm" would shift over to the thousands of fast food stands that are employing illegals. This story just goes to show that the military faction in this country holds a lot more sway, and the ordinary Joe is left in the dirt. I'm not knocking policemen, and deplore the way left leaning people feel free to humiliate and surveill them. But there is a lot worse stuff going on.

Exactly. Now 2 low wage workers have lost their job or income because of a cop for no valid reason whatsoever. Shame on Arby's for firing the manager and suspending the other worker. And SHAME SHAME SHAME on the cop who complained and the Florida Police Union that called for these workers termination.

The Florida Police Union if it had anything on its agenda besides being fed had called for the termination of all illegal aliens and H2B visa workers stealing jobs from Americans, then it might have done something to advance the respect they seek.

Police have a terrible public relations problem, and one they created all by themselves.
