The Oregon occupier who died last month during a confrontation with FBI agents and state police officers was hailed as a hero during his funeral at a Mormon church.

The ceremony for Robert LaVoy Finicum, 54, attracted hundreds of supporters from across the country to Kanab, Utah, on Friday.

'My dad was murdered defending the liberties so that we may be free of bondage,' his daughter Brittney Beck said.

Finicum's death has become a symbol for those decrying federal oversight on public lands in the West and elsewhere, and has led to protests of what they call an unnecessary use of force. But authorities say the 54-year-old was reaching for a gun during the confrontation.

Occupier Jason Patrick To Remain In Custody

A judge Tuesday ordered Jason Patrick, one of the former occupiers of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, to remain in custody until his trial.Patrick was appealing an earlier ruling that denied him pretrial release.

In Tuesday’s ruling, federal judge Anna Brown said Patrick was a danger to the community.

Patrick is from Georgia.

After the arrests of occupation leaders Ammon and Ryan Bundy in late January, Patrick assumed a leadership role. He surrendered to the FBI Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Judge orders Cliven Bundy to stay in jail

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A U.S. judge ordered Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy to stay in jail until he is taken back to Nevada to face charges stemming from a 2014 standoff with federal officials near his ranch.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Janice Stewart ruled Tuesday that Bundy shouldn't be released ahead of trial because "that is likely the last the government will see of him."

Federal prosecutors called Bundy "lawless and violent" and told the judge that he shouldn't be freed from jail ahead of trial.

A 34-page document filed Tuesday before Bundy's detention hearing in Portland said the 69-year-old should stay behind bars because he doesn't recognize federal authority.

A family member said Bundy isn't dangerous or a criminal and should be released from jail because he isn't a flight risk.

Daughter-in-law Briana Bundy said the judge should let the 69-year-old live at home while he awaits trial.

Bundy was arrested last week when he arrived in Oregon to support his sons, Ammon and Ryan Bundy. They're jailed and accused of leading a weekslong occupation at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

LAS VEGAS -- Rancher Cliven Bundy and four other men, including his two sons, who led the armed occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, were indicted in connection with a different 2014 armed standoff in Nevada.Bundy, 69, his sons Ammon and Ryan and two other men, Ryan Payne and Peter Santilli, face 16 federal felony charges in a 2014 armed standoff with federal law enforcement. The federal indictment comes about a week after the collapse of the Malheur armed takeover.

"The rule of law has been reaffirmed with these charges," U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden, for the District of Nevada, said.

"Persons who use force and violence against federal law enforcement officers who are enforcing court orders, and nearly causing catastrophic loss of life or injury to others, will be brought to justice."

Bundy and the others, with the support of hundreds of armed supporters, faced off with the federal government in and around Bunkerville, Nev., on April 12, 2014. The government had seized his cattle over unpaid grazing fees and trespassing on public land.

During the confrontation, several of Bundy's followers took up sniper positions against the agents to try and retake the cattle. Federal authorities eventually backed down.

Federal authorities said Bundy was the "leader, organizer and chief beneficiary of the conspiracy, and possessed ultimate authority over the conspiratorial operations and received the economic benefits of the extortion." Authorities said the other men were charged as leaders and organizers who conspired with Bundy.

Ammon Bundy's attorney, Mike Arnold, said, "the Nevada indictment is no surprise."

"It's important for the public to remember that there is a constitutional presumption of innocence in America," he said. "A government charge is proof of nothing."

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Ammon Bundy and another 15 defendants have pleaded not guilty to a federal conspiracy charge related to the armed takeover of an Oregon wildlife refuge.

U.S. District Judge Anna Brown reminded the defendants Wednesday that they are considered innocent until proven guilty. Several of the accused doubted that assertion. One of them, Jason Patrick, said: "You're the federal government; you're going to do whatever you want."

The judge set an April 29 trial date, though that seems unlikely to occur. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ethan Knight said a superseding indictment with additional charges was likely.

Defense lawyers and their investigators plan to visit the refuge Thursday. It will be their first look at the scene of the 41-day standoff. The judge denied Bundy's request to tag along with his attorneys.

  ROCHESTER — Local Tea Party leader Jerry DeLemus, of Rochester, has been arrested by federal agents in connection with his affiliation with the Cliven Bundy standoff in Nevada in 2014.
  
  DeLemus is facing nine felony charges out of Nevada, including: conspiracy to commit an offense against the United State; conspiracy to impede and injure a federal officer; assault on a federal officer; threatening a federal law enforcement officer; use and carry of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence; obstruction of the due administration of justice; interference with interstate commerce by extortion; interstate travel in aid of extortion; and aiding and abetting, according to a 64-page federal document.
  
  The indictments stem from a massive armed assault against federal law enforcement officers that occurred in and around Bunkerville, Nevada, on April 12, 2014, according to federal documents. DeLemus allegedly took part in the planning, organization, and/or participated as a gunman in the assault, all in order to threaten, intimidate, and extort the officers into abandoning approximately 400 head of cattle that were in their care and custody, federal documents allege. The federal government claims DeLemus drove out to Nevada as a resident of New Hampshire to take part in the stand-off.
  
  Delemus' wife, state Rep. Susan DeLemus, confirmed on Thursday that federal officials had arrested her husband earlier that morning, but had no other comment.
  
  DeLemus is a co-chairman for Veterans for Donald Trump in New Hampshire and is one of the founders of the Rochester 9/12 Project, an organization devoted to discussing issues the United States faces in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
  
  DeLemus attempted to start a “Draw Muhammad” contest last summer, which he later cancelled because he said he had spread his message of protecting constitutional rights without hold the event. A similar event in Texas resulted in an act of terrorism.

Trump Campaign Official Arrested On Federal Charges Linked To Bundy Ranch

FBI agents arrested Jerry DeLemus, co-chair of Veterans for Trump in New Hampshire, on Thursday following his indictment in connection with the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff in Nevada, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported.

Federal charges against DeLemus included "conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, threatening a federal law enforcement officer, attempting to impede or injure a federal law enforcement officer and several firearms charges," the newspaper reported.
Susan DeLemus, a state representative and fellow supporter of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, confirmed her husband's arrest to the newspaper. Trump announced that he was forming Veterans for Trump in July and named DeLemus among the co-chairs.
The standoff in Nevada two years ago came after federal officials said Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy allowed his cattle to graze on federal land for decades without paying grazing fees. Bundy invited hundreds of followers, many of them armed, to his ranch to push back against federal officers who were impounding his cattle.
The event resurfaced in headlines this year when Bundy's sons, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, organized a standoff of their own at a federal wildlife refuge in rural Oregon. DeLemus traveled to Oregon to visit their occupation and called their cause "peaceful" and "constitutionally just."
DeLemus told Reuters at the time that he wanted to tell Trump "the whole story” of the Oregon occupation, adding that he expected the story would "arouse" the real estate mogul and inspire him to head West. The standoff lasted for 41 days and resulted in several arrests and the death of one militant in a confrontation with police. Trump never visited the refuge, but did say that he would have acted to end the standoff because “you cannot let people take over federal property."
Susan DeLemus also spent time in the media spotlight recently for defending Trump against Pope Francis, whom she called the "anti-Christ." She later told Politico that she was referring to the papacy, not Francis in particular.
