The Army National Guard Just Sent a Less Than Savory Message to Its Core Demographic – Christians

The Bible Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri, does a Vacation Bible School every summer. As a way of informing kids about the different types of servicemen that protect them everyday, Pastor Hogan arranged for people like fireman, policemen, and the National Guard to come and visit.
The day that the National Guard were supposed to show, the children were left without anyone to learn from or thank for their service.
Pastor Hogan told Fox News:
“We were told it was against military policy for National Guard troops to participate in Vacation Bible School. They said if the National Guard had assets on church property it would look like the National Guard is sponsoring the Baptist religion.”
Feeling more than a little concerned about the situation, Pastor Hogan contacted his state representative Mike Kelley. Kelley dug further into the situation by contacting the Missouri National Guard personally, only to find that what was occurring here was due to “over-burdensome federal regulation.”
“I don’t think most Americans realize how much their religious liberty is in jeopardy. If they did this to us – how bad is it somewhere else? This is not just a big city issue. This is a small town America issue. Americans need to wake up.”
The upper echelons who control the National Guard seem to be having a deep identity crisis considering that a 2009 survey of religious preference indicated over two-thirds of those surveyed identified with some form of Christian faith.
All things considered, both we and the children at this summer camp are left with feelings of disappointment. Reform at the federal level needs to happen sooner rather than later.
