REIDSVILLE, N.C. A Greensboro artist's sculpture is taking the place of a Confederate monument in the center of a roundabout in Reidsville.

The News & Record of Greensboro Artwork to replace Confederate Monument goes up in Reidsville - Greensboro News & Record: News reports artist Jim Gallucci on Tuesday officially laid the roots for his 17-foot-tall brushed-stainless-steel sculpture entitled "Budding Future."

Gallucci says the sculpture is designed to pay respect to the city's history while looking forward to its future.

A prominent Confederate monument had stood in that spot from 1910 to 2011, when it was damaged during a car crash. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, which owned the statue, decided to move the monument to the Greenview Cemetery in 2014.

Rockingham County residents and the Sons of the Confederates Veterans fought for the monument's return, and unsuccessfully sued several local and state agencies.

This is what replaced an historical monument. A useless little fluff piece. Great job. Hope the guy who 'accidentally' ran his minivan into the monument is happy because the majority of Rockingham County is disgusted.
I used to work in Reidsville and drove past the Confederate Soldier Monument everyday on my way to work. It only seemed to bother the good citizens of this county after Obama became ruler in chief. He has done more to deteriorate race relations all across this country than the klan ever did. We can no longer honor and commemorate unless we are honoring and commemorating a hyphenated American. Forget history and truth.
