BREAKING: Liberal Unions Suffer Massive Defeat That Could Cause a Collapse

Wisconsin teachers have been leaving the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) in droves ever since Gov. Scott Walker passed the Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill (also known as Act 10) in 2011.
According to Fox News, the bill allowed teachers to opt out of membership in the WEAC and also forced the organization to “mount a recertification drive every year to ensure that a majority wants its representation.” In addition, public sector employers are no longer allowed to collect dues union automatically.

Membership in the WEAC has decreased by one-third from its 100,000 member count in 2011 and the AFT-Wisconsin, a smaller union, has lost almost half of its member base, which once numbered 16,000.
Many Wisconsin educators are delighted to be out from under the union’s thumb. “We shouldn’t be pigeon-holed into contributing to politics we don’t believe in,” said Michelle Uetz, a special ed teacher at Prescott High. But unfortunately, there are rumors of bullying by the unions in order to prevent further attrition and scare new teachers into thinking they’ll be targets for administrators should they choose not to join.
“If the union is so beneficial and good, people will want to join on the principle and the merits and not be forced to join,” said Deena Ferguson, an elementary school teacher.

Many teachers who have opted out of the union have joined trade groups such as the Association of American Educators, which provides some benefits without practicing collective bargaining.
These teachers should have the right to decide the course of their professional future without being bullied by the unions if they choose to opt out. The fact that they now actually have this choice is a victory for America.
