Cables snap and close SF Bay Bridge. Are cables made in China?

Outsourcing, free trade and globalization are the hallmarks of the Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and the Clinton administrations. American jobs in manufacturing and industry are just inconvenient collateral damage.

So what did we do? We outsource the cornerstones of American industry like the forging of steel and the building components of our cities, towns, roads and bridges.

Now it might be time for a pause and some circumspection.

The lesser cousin of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge (no less important and critical), the San Francisco Bay Bridge’s steel bracket snapped… literally snapped and almost killed motorists just driving across the Bay Bridge. Pieces of the cantilever section fell during the late-afternoon commute hitting three vehicles on the upper deck. The section pieces that snapped are in the eastern side of Yerba Buena island which were recently retrofitted.

Michael Cabanatuan, the Chronicle’s transportation reporter clarifies, “The failed components were not part of the outsourced bridge project. The failed repair is not part of the new east span project and ZPMC steel is not involved. The steel was fabricated in Arizona and Oakland. Second, it was not a cable that broke but part of a saddle (kind of like a bracket) and two high-strength steel rods.â€

Free Trade Treason has destroyed the US economy and may eventually kill u all. Throw the free trade treason bums out of Congress so we can repeal free trade treason agreements and restore reasonable and fair protected trade policies which is how built the greatest economy the world has ever known ... or ever will ... until we rebuild our own with secure borders, protected trade and the FairTax.

It’s a disturbing day for us in the San Francisco Bay Area. The outsourcing already lost American jobs. Now it is possible that outsourcing could also kill innocent people just trying to get to work or get home.

Yes and there will more of it, if we do not stop THE INSANITY!!!

And this happened at the PEAK of the commute traffic hours. Before it happened traffic was already backed up to Oakland. This is very dangerous. This is the same bridge that collapsed during the Loma Prieta quake in 1989. Supposedly it was repaired at that time. And just recently they did some repairs. Many many cars and trucks pass over this bridge everyday.

I can not imagine having to cross a bridge that I didn't know was 100% safe. There is just no excuse for this. Americans have know how to build the best bridges in the world, but we end up with this situation and the situation in Minneapolis and God only knows how many more laying in deadly await.

Guess who got the glass contract for the new Freedom Tower to replace the WTC in New York? Yep ... China.
