    Senator Feinstein's Mansion is Secure

    By: Daniel Horowitz

What happens when elected officials use the boot of government to intrude into parts of our economy and our personal lives far beyond what our Founders ever envisioned? They lose interest in the few legitimate functions of government they are supposed to watch closely, such as protecting our homeland. Arch-liberal Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), is the latest example of a senator with such dyslexic priorities.
Last week, Feinstein penned an op-ed declaring our border with Mexico fully secure. She condemned the majority of the country who think the border is not secure as “mired in this false fear of lax border security.” This would be as funny as “Baghdad Bob” denying that Iraq was falling to American troops in 2002 – except that this is not funny; it’s dangerous.
Nobody aside from wealthy Californian politicians can deny the peril at our southern border. Almost 500,000 people crossed our border illegally this year, a 14% jump from last year. This is the third year in a row that the number of illegal border crossings has increased. Obviously, much of that increase comes from the massive influx of illegals from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. We’ve opened the door so wide for illegal immigrants that some who have already been deported are being invited back in to settle in California.

Maybe Sen. Feinstein can tell the victims of those crimes that our border is more secure than ever. Maybe she should visit the parents of those children struck in a hit-and-run by an illegal in North Carolina and tell them the border is secure.

Worse, Obama has released hundreds of criminal aliens onto the streets. Maybe Sen. Feinstein can tell the victims of those crimes that our border is more secure than ever. Maybe she should visit the parents of those children struck in a hit-and-run by an illegal in North Carolina and tell them the border is secure.
Meanwhile, just .007% of the young illegals that crossed our border this year have been returned to their home countries. Maybe Feinstein can tell the teachers and children suffering from the effects of this massive influx that our borders are fully secure.
Feinstein cites the increase in the number of border patrol agents and infrastructure as proof that our border is more secure than ever before. But what good are border patrol agents if they are explicitly prevented from doing their jobs and forced to act as nannies for families crossing the border? Maybe she should talk to these agents and she will discover that their morale is at an all-time low.
The only significant piece of infrastructure that is not subject to Obama’s prosecutorial discretion is border fencing. But Feinstein’s claim that we have 652 miles of fencing is not grounded in reality. As of June 2013, only 36.3 of the 700 miles of double-layered fencing were constructed, as required by the 2006 Secure Fence Act. Roughly 299 miles are covered by simple vehicle barriers. Even the 352.7 miles of “pedestrian fencing” is a complete joke, as you can see from this picture. Compare that to the 15-foot double-layered fence in the San Diego corridor and you will see why we need that version across the rest of the border.
Furthermore, Feinstein completely ignores the national security risk of our wide-open visa system – our front door – which is perhaps more dangerous than our porous southern border. Last month, ABC news discovered that 58,000 foreign nationals have overstayed their student visas, of which 6,000 represent a “heightened concern.” Since 9/11, instead of limiting and monitoring visas from countries that represent a security risk, we have increased them and have no way of tracking them.
According to data compiled by the Brookings Institute, Saudi Arabian nationals – who accounted for 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 – were granted more student visas between 2008 and 2012 than all but three other countries. Now that we have let in so many Islamic extremists to our country, Feinstein’s party leader is failing to even monitor, much less deport, those who fight for ISIS overseas and return to America.
Most recently, with the outbreak of Ebola in Western Africa, we have failed to follow basic procedures to prevent people like Thomas Eric Duncan from entering on a visa from Liberia.
Now step back and view our immigration system in the context of the current threat from the Islamic State (ISIS) and ask yourself if you feel secure.

The only thing that is secure in California is Dianne Feinstein’s mansion. Living in her ivory tower, she doesn’t need to harbor 'a false fear' of illegal immigration.

Indeed, the only thing that is secure in California is Dianne Feinstein’s mansion. Living in her ivory tower, she doesn’t need to harbor “a false fear” of illegal immigration. After all, she doesn’t suffer from the inimical effects on our criminal justice system, hospitals, schools, jobs, and welfare programs. In fact, the more insecure our nation is and the more balkanized California becomes, the more secure her own job is. And therein lies the problem.
