Happy Snow-vember! Dreaming of a white Thanksgiving?

Share the facts at CFACT's Climate Depot: http://www.climatedepot.com/

Cold records shattered. Snow piling up....

Does this year's deep November freeze, or last winter's bone chilling cold and mounds of snow invalidate the theory of global warming?

No, they're, just weather, but they do make a worthy counterpoint to global warming claims that snow is now "a thing of the past," or the rest of the propaganda.

Remember next time a warming campaigner tries to con you over a hot August day.

What does invalidate the theory of global warming? Their own computer models which call for a warmer world than we've had for the last 18 years. They'd best find some sustained big time warming soon or it's game over.

The UN international climate summit in Peru is just two weeks away!

Will President Obama check the facts before he bypasses the Senate and sticks future generation with a UN climate agreement that is "all pain, no gain?"

Stunning Photos Of Record Snow Covering Upstate New York: 100 Total Inches Of Snow Expected

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/19/2014 13:54 -0500

As previously reported, the anticipated Polar Vortex 2.0 has struck, pushing temperatures in all 50 states to below freezing, while heavy snow prompted a state of emergency in western New York and contributed to the deaths of four people. According to Reuters, it was the coldest November morning across the country since 1976, according to Weather Bell Analytics, a meteorologist consulting firm. It remains to be seen how many GDP percentage points were wiped out as a result, unless of course, this time it will be different from last winter. Typically, such cold is not seen until late December through February.
But it was the situation in upstate New York, especially around Buffalo and parts of Erie County, where things got most dire and where 60 inches (1.5 m) of snow accumulated, with more falling, said Steven Welch of the National Weather Service near Buffalo. Snow fell at a rate of up to five inches (13 cm) an hour and some areas approached the U.S. record for 24-hour snowfall totals of 76 inches, or over 6 feet, the NWS said.

The record cumulative snowfall through Wednesday is shown in the image below:

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for 10 counties. National Guard troops were deployed to help residents cope with the storm.

1st video at the page link:

The good news, according to CBS, is that the Tuesday storm is fading away: deputy Erie County Executive Rich Tobe told reporters Wednesday morning that the storm had begun to move toward Buffalo's northern suburbs, and was expected to leave 2-5 more inches of snow in its wake. But he said the break would be short-lived for the hard-hit southern Buffalo suburbs, where forecasters were calling for more snow on Thursday, as much as three feet more, for a total of up to 100 inches over four days - a year's worth for the region. Still, there should be an 18 hour window to clear roads, he said.
And then it is all set to flip again, with the current freezing period expected to be followed by a "dramatic warming trend this weekend," raising the possibility of flooding from melting snow.
One of the main culprits for the heavy snow accumulation was the so called "lake-effect" which created a stark divide: In downtown Buffalo and north of the city, there was a mere dusting of precipitation, while in parts south, snow was everywhere. The snow band that brought the snow was very much evident throughout the day as gray clouds persistently hovered over the southern part of the city. The band was so apparent that the wall of snow could be seen from a mile away.
A dramatic time-lapse of the snow-wall can be seen in the video below:

But nothing compares to the photos on the ground as shocked residents woke up to find themselves literally burried under 6 or more feet of snow. Here is a sample of what they saw on Tuesday morning courtesy of Albany Meteorologist Greg Pollak:

Polar Vortex 2.0 Arrives - All 50 States Will Freeze Tonight

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/17/2014 22:23 -0500

3 months ago we warned US economic growth faced a challenge more powerful than any Fed-sponsored miracle could handle and 3 weeks ago Yellen's worst nightmare began to loom on the chilly horizon. But tonight, from the depths of the night, the cruel monetary-policy-nullifying devil of Polar Vortex 2.0 arrives as all 50 states (yes even Hawaii) will see temperatures drop below freezing...

On the bright side, companies will have more than just strong dollar and weak foreign growth to blame for earnings weakness... weather is back baby!!

    h/t @Met_mdClark

Just one thing for those celebrating the drop in gas prices at the pump as some tax cut for the consumer (which it is not - it merely allocates the same aggregate spending dollars from gas to a different consumable - leaving aggregate spending just the same - or less in fact should consumers, as in Japan's balance sheet recession, choose to minimize debt as opposed to maximize profits or living standards with their extra cash)... this is what happened to home electricity bills last year... (now is that a tax hike for the consumer?)

Now, the only question is how the resultant tumble in Q4 GDP will be used by the Fed and econo-pundit talking heads to justify a further delay in rate hikes, which consensus expects to take place in Q2 2015 at the latest as a result of recent seasonally massaged "strong data", or better yet, force the Fed to resume liquidity injections once it is revealed that the ECB's intervention is limited to verbal jawboning, while Japan's runaway import cost inflation and plunging real wages lead to a revulsion against Abenomics and Abe in 2015, and a premature end to Japan's epic hyper-reflation experiment and the best laid plans of Goldman Sachs to boost "risk assets" and Goldman year end bonuses.

Second Lake-Effect Blast Cripples Upstate New York

    UPDATED 7:15 PM EST, November 20 2014

UPDATED By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Fred Allen

A dangerous second blast of lake-effect snow will continue to bury the eastern Great Lakes through the end of the week. Many along the Interstate 90 corridor will be digging out of more than 7 feet of snow.

The lake-effect instigator is low pressure rushing across Quebec tonight. In its wake, Arctic air is flowing across the relatively warm and unfrozen eastern Great Lakes. The end outcome is two narrow but quite impressive lake-effect snow bands, each pulverizing many of the same western New York locations that were crippled a little more than 24 hours ago.

One such band is slowly inching southward away from Buffalo this evening, hammering the Interstate 90 corridor from Dunkirk to North Boston and Boston, N.Y. In this lake-effect snow band, snowfall rates are easily topping 4 inches per hour. The other band, recently strengthening, will bury cities such as Oswego and Pulaski, N.Y., with snow rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour this evening.

Lake-Effect Snow Warnings and Lake-Effect Snow Advisories remain in place over Upstate New York through Friday, including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown and Jamestown, N.Y.

The slow southward shift of the band will mean places such as Jamestown, N.Y., Erie, Pa., and Ashtabula, Ohio, will pick up similar snowfall rates of 3 to 5 inches per hour tonight into Friday. Snow totals will vary widely, with the snow "jackpot" likely occurring just south of Buffalo, where locally 3 to 4 feet is not out of the question. Further south in northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania, totals of 1 to 3 feet will be commonplace.

One to locally 3 feet of snow will also bury those in the favored snow belts downwind of Lake Ontario as well tonight into Friday with the second lake-effect band not budging much at all.

The lake-effect snow combined with gusts peaking near 40 mph will lead to whiteout and near-blizzard conditions tonight across western New York, northwestern Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. Travel is highly discouraged, as roads will be impassable and snow-covered. The New York Thruway from Rochester to the New York and Pennsylvania border is closed. Make sure to carry a winter survival kit, consisting of a shovel, blankets or sleeping bags, high energy food, water and road salt, sand or kitten littler to help with traction, in the event you become stranded.

The snow "jackpot" so far with this latest round of lake-effect snow is Wales Center, N.Y., with 37 inches falling today alone. Hamburg, N.Y., has been buried underneath 36.5 inches of snow. This brings each respective cities total snowfall accumulation from both lake-effect snow events to an astonishing 7 feet. In addition to these amazing snowfall tallies, the death toll is climbing, now up to 10 people along with more than 100 cars and semis reportedly being stranded at one point as well.

The silver lining is the double-whammy of lake-effect snow will finally shut off on Friday across Upstate New York thanks to high pressure expanding into the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley.
