Fiesta Plaza to become a reality in Raeford

(RAEFORD) – Steven and Ana Calvert are not professional developers. They say they are just small business owners who saw a need in their community and acted on it. Thanks to their business instinct they now say their American dream is coming true.

Seven years ago, the Calverts opened the first Latino store in Raeford. Now, with that goal nearly a decade old, they say they are dreaming of something even bigger – an entire shopping center that caters to the Hispanic population.

It’s called Fiesta Plaza. The new shopping center should make running errands much easier for the Raeford Hispanic population. There will be a Laundromat, a bakery, a restaurant, a clothing store, and even a place where they can cash checks and transfer money. The Calverts say they hope it really will be a one-stop shop for a rapidly growing Hispanic community.

“This, with my husband, really was our dream – top open some place where Hispanics could come together,â€

The study shows that in 2004, the Hispanic population contributed more than $9 billion to the state's economy. If that trend continues, their economic contribution could double to $18 billion over the next four years.
So how much of this $18 billion will come from illegal aliens? And how much will taxpayers have stolen by the local, county & state government to subsidize these illegals?
