Governor Susana Martinez is expected to outline a bill this week that would expand Katie's Law.
The law was first passed in New Mexico in 2007. It requires DNA samples be taken from people arrested for certain felony crimes like murder, rape, and kidnapping. The governor wants to expand the law to include any felony arrest.
The law is named after Katie Sepich who was a New Mexico State University student who was kidnapped, raped, and killed in 2003.
The Las Cruces Sun-News reports Martinez will introduce the legislation on Tuesday.
