PHOENIX -- A 70-year-old homeless man who was assaulted in Phoenix last week has died and now a reward is being offered to help locate the suspect.

Police officers responded to a check welfare call at the AM/PM store near McDowell Road and 27th Avenue just after 8 p.m. on July 11.

Officers learned that the transient was standing at a nearby bus stop when the suspect walked up to him, looked him up and down, shouted profanity and punched him once on the side of his head then fled the scene.

Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital where he later died.

Police have not determined a motive.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 165 to 185 pounds with tattoos on the back of his arms. He was wearing a dark baseball cap with a San Francisco Giants logo, a tan-colored T-shirt with an unknown design on the front and tan camouflage pants.

Surveillance video shows the suspect inside the convenience store prior to the assault.

Anyone with information about the suspect's identity or his whereabouts is asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or silentwitness.org. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered.
