Heat wave to begin this weekend
Heat wave to begin this weekend
By Gary Robbins 10:08 P.M.APRIL 3, 2014
HEAT ON WAY BACK
The cool, damp weather will soon be history.
The marine layer will last into Saturday, preventing daytime highs at the coast from rising above 66 degrees in San Diego -- the seasonal average. But the National Weather Service says that a major high pressure system will evolve on Sunday, sending highs to 72 in San Diego and about five degrees higher inland. It'll be the start of a sharp warmup that will peak on Tuesday when the daytime high reaches 87 in San Diego -- a figure that's more than 20 degrees above normal.
Inland highs will reach or surpass 90.
Wavecast: The surf will be in the 2' to 3' range along most of the coast throughout the weekend. Sea surface temps: 60-61 degrees.

L.A. heat wave: Spike in temperatures expected through midweek
By Matt StevensApril 7, 2014, 8:07 a.m.
After weeks of cooler temperatures, and even spurts of rain, Los Angeles will experience a warm-up this week with temperatures as high as 15 degrees above normal, forecasters said.
A “very large” high-pressure system will bring temperatures into the upper 80s along with off-shore winds from the northeast, National Weather Service weather specialist Stuart Seto said. Downtown, for example, will warm to about 87 degrees on Monday before a cooling trend begins after Wednesday.
Temperatures are “really on the climb,” Seto said. “We’re going to be on the warmer side for the next four or five days."
By Tuesday, ocean breezes from the coastal areas will cool the beaches and areas as far east as downtown, Seto said. However, the valleys will remain around 86 degrees through Wednesday before cooling off.
By Friday, the Southland will be back in the 70s.
“We haven’t had anything like this for a while,” Seto said. “Have your water with you.”
