The Air Force serviceman who helped foil a terrorist plot on a French train this summer was repeatedly stabbed early Thursday morning.

According to the Air Force Times, Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone is being treated at a hospital in the Sacramento area after being stabbed four times in the chest.

“A1C Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is currently being treated for injury,” Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Karns said. “The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement. He is currently in stable condition.”

CBS News reported on Twitter that Stone was in critical condition.

According to a local television station, a stabbing occurred at approximately 12:45A.M. on a street corner in Sacramento. The TV outlet did not name Stone as the victim in its report but said police did not think the victim would survive the attack. Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide and maintain that the victim has not been identified.

Stone was one of the three Americans who subdued an armed terrorist aboard a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris in August. The 26-year-old Air Force member was wounded with a knife while foiling the terror plot and sent to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

Stone, National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and Sacramento State University student Anthony Sadler all received France’s Legion of Honour award for their heroic actions.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —Hometown hero Spencer Stone was stabbed multiple times early Thursday morning near several popular bars in midtown Sacramento, KCRA has confirmed with the U.S. Air Force.

The stabbing happened about 12:45 a.m. near 21st and K streets, Sacramento police said.

A fight in the street allegedly led to Stone being stabbed multiple times in the torso, prompting investigators to block off two blocks in the area, Sacramento police said.

Stone was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A man and a woman were questioned by police, but there is no word that they were detained or taken into custody.
The area reopened about 6 a.m., but the investigation is ongoing.

No suspect description has been released.

Stone and two friends, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos, who all grew up in Sacramento, were hailed as heroes for stopping a terrorist attack on board a Paris-bound train.

Skarlatos returned last week to Roseburg, Oregon where he was living after a gunman opened fire on Skarlatos' college, Umpqua Community College, killing nine before before the shooter turned the gun on himself.

Spencer Stone, hero in French train attack, reportedly in stable condition after stabbing

    Published October 08, 2015 FoxNews.com

Spencer Stone, one of the three Americans hailed a hero in the French train attack in August, is in stable condition after being stabbed Thursday near a Sacramento bar.

He was stabbed around 1 a.m. PT and was transported to a local hospital, according to an Air Force statement. It adds that local law enforcement are investigating.

The Air Force Times reported that Stone was stabbed four times in the chest.

Details of the stabbing early Thursday are unclear. The suspects, described as two male Asian adults in white T-shirts and blue jeans, fled the scene in a 2009-2012 dark Toyota Camry, police said at a press conference.

"The assault does not appear to be a random act; it's believed to be related to a night-club incident," police said. Police have ruled out terrorism.

Sacramento police said the stabbing occurred in an area with a lot of bars and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Law enforcement sources said they are working on the premise that Stone left a club with a woman who was harassed by wither one man or a group. Stone came to her aid about a block from the club, the sources said. Authorities believe Stone may have been attacked by up to six men and held down while stabbed, the sources said.

Brian Stone, the airman's father, told People magazine, "He's out of surgery and doing well. He's been upgraded so no longer critical and it looks like he's going to be okay. All I can say is that this world is not short of idiots."

Stone, 23, a Sacramento State University senior, and two friends-- National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler-- were on the Amsterdam-to-Paris train in late August when a gunman started to open fire. The three Americans charged the gunman and were able to eventually subdue him.

FILE 2015: Spencer Stone, who helped thwart an attack on a French train last August, greets fans in Sacramento. He is in stable condition after being stabbed four times in the chest.

"He seemed like he was ready to fight to the end. So were we," Stone said at the time.

Stone, who was stabbed and slashed with a box cutter during the train melee, said he was waking up from a deep sleep when Skarlatos "just hit me on the shoulder and said 'Let's go.'"

Stone and Skarlatos, 22, moved in to tackle the gunman, identified as 26-year-old Moroccan Ayoub El-Khazzani, and take his assault rifle.

Sadler, 23, then moved in to help subdue the assailant. "All three of us started punching" him, Stone said. Stone said he choked El-Khazzani unconscious.

Stone is also credited with saving a French-American teacher wounded in the neck with a gunshot wound and squirting blood.

Stone described matter-of-factly that he "just stuck two of my fingers in his hole and found what I thought to be the artery, pushed down and the bleeding stopped." He said he kept the position until paramedics arrived.

President Obama met with the three last month, praising them for their quick thinking and courage and calling them "the very best of America." They were also awarded France's highest honor by President Francois Hollande. The three appeared on late-night talk shows and received a hometown parade in their honor.
