How US Sugar Policies Just Helped America Lose 600 Jobs

The manufacturer of Oreo cookies recently announced plans to move production of Oreos from Chicago to Mexico, resulting in a loss of 600 U.S. jobs.

This should be a wake-up call to defenders of the U.S. sugar program and other job-destroying trade barriers.

The leading ingredient in Oreos is sugar, and U.S. trade barriers currently require Americans to pay twice the average world prices for sugar.

Sugar-using industries now have a big incentive to relocate from the United States to countries where access to their primary ingredient is not restricted.

Please don't blame our sugar industry for this, please. We don't hire child slaves to cut our cane for cookies.

I won't buy another cookie made by Nabsico, and I hope no other American will either.

At some point, we have to all stand together and tell these stupid idiots, no, if you make it over there, we will not buy it here.

Besides, there are a lot of small US cookie manufacturers, their cookies are delicious and sometimes even cheaper than Nabiscos.

I think this is the deal Trump was talking about this past week, he was truly furious about it. Wants to charge them a 35% tariff.

Yes, we need to repeal NAFTA and CAFTA and MAFTA and all these other free trade treasonous agreements, pass the FairTax and return to tariff-based trade. Because as Trump says, "they're killing US".
