ICE contests study

Des Moines Register
August 15, 2009

A study released in July by the Immigration Justice Clinic at Yeshiva University's Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law analyzed home raid arrest records from Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in Long Island and New Jersey.

The report made several recommendations, including limiting the use of home raids to those who pose a serious risk; using judicial warrants; and videotaping all home raids. The study - found at www.cardozo.yu.edu - also called for the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General to conduct an investigation.

ICE said it was not given an opportunity to review or comment on the report before it was published. "Consequently, the report contains numerous factual and legal inaccuracies," a statement from the agency reads. "In addition, the report is largely based on older, limited data which has resulted in the report's reflection of outdated facts."
