Iowa passes outrageous law + More food safety news

Iowa passes outrageous law demanding total secrecy over factory meat filth and cruelty practices

Sunday, March 04, 2012 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Capturing undercover footage of extreme animal abuse at factory farms is soon to be illegal in Iowa, thanks to the passage of a new bill that squelches First Amendment protections for agricultural whistleblowers. In one of the fastest legislative rush-throughs in history, the "American Heartland" state's House and Senate recently passed House File 589, also known as the "ag-gag" bill, which redefines undercover filming and various other whistle-blowing activities as "agricultural production facility fraud" punishable under the law.

Prior to the passage of the bill, which now sits on Republican Governor Terry Branstad's desk for signing, exposing the horrific conditions in many of Iowa's factory farms was a legally-protected free speech right. Once signed into law, however, H.F. 589 will make Iowa the first state in America to actively muzzle individuals from exposing the ugly truth about what takes place at chicken farms, animal processing plants, and even behemoth genetically-modified (GM) crops farms across the state.

"This flawed and misdirected legislation could set a dangerous precedent nationwide by throwing shut the doors to industrial factory farms and allowing animal abuse, environmental violations, and food contamination issues to flourish undetected, unchallenged and unaddressed," said Nathan Runkle, executive director of the Chicago-based animal rights group Mercy for Animals (MFA), to Food Safety News. "This bill is bad for consumers, who want more, not less, transparency in production of their food."

Without undercover investigations, the horrors of the factory food industry would never see the light of day
Undercover investigations, of course, were responsible for shutting down Hallmark and Westland, a California-based meat packing facility where extreme and highly-disturbing animal abuse was taking place on a regular basis. The company, which was eventually shut down thanks to undercover video footage captured by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), had been supplying tainted meat to public school lunchrooms across the U.S. (Dirty, contaminated beef fed to children through school lunch programs).

You can watch a clip of that investigation at the following link. Be warned, the imagery is deeply disturbing:
    Hallmark Westland Meat - YouTube

The sting that led to the ultimate demise of the wretched company responsible for this abuse, however, would not have been possible had an ag-gag bill similar to the one about to be passed in Iowa been in place in California at that time. In simple terms, H.F. 589 is an assault on free speech, and a clear maneuver by the filthy factory farm industry to shield its many horrors from public exposure.

"This law is un-American and a broad government overreach," added Runkle. "It seeks to shield animal abusers from public scrutiny and prosecute the brave whistleblowers who dare to speak out against animal cruelty, environmental pollution and corporate corruption."

You can contact Gov. Branstad's office and urge him to reject H.F. 589 by visiting:

You’re being experimented on without your permission. Untested mutations in your kitchen... DNA-altered food in every box, bag and container at the store... hormone-filled meat and milk... so-called “organic” chicken... and no one has to tell you anything.

Giant agribusiness companies are slowly and quietly spreading their scientifically altered seeds to so many farms that nearly half of all foods on supermarket shelves now contain some ingredient that has had its DNA tampered with by science.

These franken-foods have never been tested – except in Big-Agra’s secret labs – but they’ve been approved for your dinner table.

The facts – well, the few facts we’re allowed to know – are scary.

Did you know their “mutant soy” is clinically documented to cause depression, fatigue, infections, brain fog, nausea... even cancer?

And soy is just the start of their plans. They’re trying to make sure you never drink milk, eat a chicken, or enjoy a Christmas ham that they don’t own.

And the government is helping them do it.

The feds have welcomed in these mega-processors with open arms. They aid them with a labyrinth of government regulations that stifle the efforts of organic farms, horrify investigators and watchdog organizations and terrorize family farmers.

These huge conglomerates are on a mission to intimidate, threaten and litigate your local organic farmers right out of business. Meanwhile the feds have made coalitions with and are even directed by Big-Agribusiness and their lobbyists and former bigwigs.

Together, these worldwide conglomerates make up a group of huge but barley-known agricultural and food processing giants that want to control the food supply for the entire world and dictate what you’ll eat. All while keeping what’s actually in your food a secret.

You need to protect yourself from the giant corporations that are experimenting on you without your permission, or your even knowing what they’re doing. That’s why I strongly urge you to read my free report, “Frankenstein Set Free On The Farm.”

In it, I’ll show you how and why this horror show is unfolding and what you can do to avoid the crippling side effects and take back your health.

You’ll discover the unconscionable behavior of Monsanto, and how this
Big-Agra giant that controls nearly every food seed on earth uses its
    power to:

strong-arm farmers to force them to either use their seeds, or go out of business
take advantage of starving Haitians after their devastating earthquake
poison an entire town in Alabama for years, and hid the fact they were doing it
frighten, threaten and bring million-dollar lawsuits against hard-working American farmers throughout rural America and the Farm Belt

    I’ll also show you:

how one food giant is trying to destroy the natural sweetener stevia in its native environment so they can grow their own patented version – and sell it to you at a huge profit
how a study of 30 rats convinced the feds to allow growth hormone into your milk – and the milk producers don’t have to tell you it’s in there
why “organic” chickens might not be organic at all

Plus, I also uncover the compelling studies showing soy is no “miracle food,” and give you eight simple steps to avoid the hidden soy in your diet and how to get these Franken-foods off your dinner table.

You need this information that’s being kept from you in order to protect yourself and your family – because your government and Big-Agra certainly aren’t going to.

Plus, when you order your free report, you’ll also get a FREE subscription to my daily health advisory, Doctor’s House Call, and monthly e-letter, Health Confidential. This is where you’ll get insight into living longer… and better… naturally, without prescription meds or trips to doctor.

Judge Naomi Buchwald's dismissal of lawsuit against Monsanto spurs protests, blockade by food freedom advocates

(NaturalNews) After many months of hopeful anticipation, a preemptive, class-action lawsuit filed by farmers seeking protection against Monsanto's predatory patent enforcements has been thrown out by U.S. District Court Judge Naomi Buchwald. And in response, a group of food freedom protesters stormed the front steps of Monsanto's Washington, D.C., office on Wed., Feb. 29, and staged a demonstration where they marched with signs and blockaded the front entrance of the building.

OSGATA et al. vs. Monsanto, which was filed on behalf of organic and non-GM farmers everywhere by the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA), addressed an important agricultural issue about which few people are aware. In the past, when Monsanto's genetically-modified (GM) seeds have contaminated non-GM and organic farms, the agri-giant has sued those farmers whose fields were contaminated on the grounds that they violated patent restrictions -- and in some cases, Monsanto actually won these lawsuits.

Seeking to protect themselves from such ludicrous and exploitative litigation, a consortium of farmers, seed companies, and agricultural organizations filed a preemptive lawsuit to stop Monsanto from ever again targeting farmers in this rapacious manner. The suit also challenged the legitimacy of Monsanto's seed patents in the first place, which many say are invalid because they do not meet the "usefulness" requirements under patent law.

But Judge Buchwald, who recently heard both sides of the story at a preliminary case hearing, has apparently decided to join forces with Monsanto by declaring the lawsuit to be "a transparent effort to create a controversy where none exists." And this statement clearly indicates that Judge Buchwald has failed to acknowledge the more than 100 instances in which Monsanto has already sued farmers for "patent infringement" when its own GM seeds and seed traits have inadvertently contaminated non-GM and organic fields.

"We're Americans. We believe in the system. But we're disappointed in the judge," said OSGATA president and organic seed farmer Jim Gerritsen in response to the ruling.

Adding to Gerritsen's sentiment, Dan Ravicher, executive director of the Public Patent Foundation at Yeshiva University's Cordozo Law School, stated that Judge Buchwald's "failure to address the purpose of the Declaratory Judgment Act and her characterization of binding Supreme Court precedent that supports the farmers' standing as 'wholly inapposite' constitute legal error."

OSGATA and others are already planning to appeal the decision, which they see as a complete denial of reality. Though Monsanto claimed before the court that it would never sue a farmer over a contamination issue, this has already been shown to be false, a fact of which Judge Buchwald should have been aware.

Rawesome Foods' James Stewart arrested in $1 million warrant (UPDATE 2)

(NaturalNews) Rawesome Foods defendants James Steward and Sharon Palmer were ambushed in California court yesterday when they appeared for a preliminary hearing about the multiple felony charges that have been ludicrously placed against them for engaging in farm-fresh food production and distribution. In court, they were ambushed with a $1 million arrest warrant (James) and a $2 million arrest warrant (Sharon), then handcuffed and marched away by agents of the corrupt state.

This appears to all be part of California's open war on family farming and real food. Observers present at the hearing described the ambush as something "done out of pure unadulterated intimidation" by a rogue government that has abandoned all law.

NaturalNews is holding the continuation of this story until more research and fact checking can be completed
In our original announcement of this, we stated that by Sunday evening we would roll out documented evidence that James Stewart has been targeted by rogue shadow government agents who have infiltrated California's executive and judicial branches. Additional details are pouring in surrounding the arrest of James Stewart and Sharon Palmer, and until we can sort through all these details and fact-check the reports, we are holding our follow up story on this until sometime next week.

Something nefarious is afoot with all this, I assure you. We aim to get to the bottom of it and bring you the updated breaking news here on NaturalNews.com.

A very good overview of recent events both in Wisconsin (Vernon Hershberger) and Ventura County (James Stewart and Sharon Palmer) has been posted by The Complete Patient, a very informative website covering raw milk. You can read it here:
    http://www.thecompletepatient.com/jo...hberger-lives-...

One thought that immediately comes to mind in the finance-related charges against Sharon Palmer is that first the state of California made it impossible for Sharon to repay her loans on the farm by fining her and terrorizing her business beginning in 2008. And then, we she was unable to repay those loans, they charged her with multiple counts of felony financial fraud for failing to repay the loans. Or at least that's the simplified version of what appears to be happening. It's quite complex and there are many players, including at least one person in Wisconsin who is an enemy of James Stewart. So there is definitely some in-fighting going on across this industry.

By the way, yesterday I released a new InfoGraphic describing the differences between raw (fresh) milk and dead pasteurized milk. It's very enlightening and well worth sharing. You can view it here:

Monsanto's Roundup herbicide found to destroy testosterone, male fertility

Saturday, March 03, 2012 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

    3596Share [Share this Article]

(NaturalNews) A recent study published in the Journal of Toxicology in Vitro has found that, even at very low levels, Monsanto's herbicide formula Roundup destroys testosterone and ultimately leads to male infertility. The findings add to the more than 25 other diseases known to be linked to Roundup, which include DNA damage, birth defects, liver dysfunction, and cancer.

For their study, Emilie Clair and her colleagues from the Universite de Caen Basse-Normandie Institute of Biology in France tested the effects of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, on testicular cells from rats. Ranging in dilution from one part per million (ppm) to 10,000 ppm, which accounts for varying exposure levels in real life situations, each of the tests revealed undeniable cell toxicity caused by Roundup.

Interestingly, the findings revealed that even at one ppm, Roundup was responsible for causing severe endocrine disruption that reduced testosterone levels by 35 percent. And a one ppm exposure level is considered to be extremely low, and much lower than typical exposure levels in everyday environmental situations.

At higher exposure levels, Roundup was shown to induce testicular cell death in a little as one hour, and typically no later than 48 hours after exposure. And this is only acute toxicity, as the study did not analyze the long-term effects of continual and repeated exposure to Roundup, which has already been shown to seep into rivers and groundwater supplies.

A similar study published in the journal Reproductive Toxicology back in 2007 found similar results. In vivo tests with Roundup revealed that the ducks exposed to Roundup exhibited "alterations in the structure of the testis and epididymal (a part of the male reproductive system) region as well as in the serum levels of testosterone and estradiol, with changes in the expression of androgen receptors restricted to the testis."

So contrary to the claims made by Monsanto, there is truly no safe exposure level to Roundup. At typical exposure levels, it has been proven to destroy human cells and cause serious reproductive harm. And at trace levels, it has been proven to severely disrupt proper hormonal function and lead to low testosterone in men.

"Because it's a systemic pesticide and sprayed in high doses, produce and fruit and nut trees often take up the poison into the parts of the food we eat," writes Leah Zerbe in a recent Rodale News piece on Roundup. "Three easy ways to reduce your exposure? Eat organically grown foods ... [a]dopt organic lawn care techniques in your yard, and start an organic garden to further reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals."
