    Lead, ammo, and Obama

    Lead, ammo, and Obama

The BS never stops with the present administration and nobody seems to give a damn

Some of you may already know this, but those that don't, read it and weep.

There are numerous alarming reasons why the US government and the military have been buying up all the ammo. Here's one of them. Obama and the EPA just shut down the last lead smelting plant in the US . They raised the EPA regulations by 10 fold and it would have cost the plant $100 million to comply. You can own all the guns you want, but if you can't get ammo, you are out of luck.

Remember when Obama promised his minions that he was working on gun control behind the scenes? Welcome to it. Now, all domestic mined lead ore will have to be shipped overseas, refined and then shipped back to the US . Not only will ammo now be even harder to come by, the demand and the process of supply will cause the price to skyrocket even more. And ponder this… there is an excellent chance that Obama will rig the market to where all ammo has to be purchased from a government entity instituting de facto ammo registration. So much for the Second Amendment. There has not been a peep about this in the major news outlets and it is done. With the US no longer producing lead, all supplies will now have to come from China , Australia or Peru , with the overwhelming emphasis on China . More redistribution of wealth; more economic and liberty crippling of the US on tap.

The asshats at the EPA (evil protection agency) had this to say:

    http://www.stltoday.com/business/loc...4715f3c2d.html

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the company "made a business decision" to shut down the smelter instead of installing pollution control technologies needed to reduce sulfur dioxide and lead emissions as required by the Clean Air Act.

    http://scducks.com/forum/showthread....39#post1566439

The Doe Run Co. Announced last year that it had dropped plans to build a new lead processing facility in Herculaneum that would have used a new, cleaner lead production technology. The company cited the $100 million project as too financially risky.

The EPA is playing Mafioso I guess — we didn't make them shut down, they mmade a business decision. In other words, they couldn't pay the extortion, so the thugs shut them down. I'm pretty sure that Americans are getting ready to make their own business decision regarding the Marxists and I don't think it will be pleasant. But Marxists will do or die and are doubling down on the destruction of energy in America , our way of life and the Constitution.

The smelting plant has known since 2010 this was coming. They couldn't stop it and no one else rose up to stop it either. The business had been in production for 120 years and now goes the way of our auto industry.

The military's obsession with ammo was related to security and supply. They knew this was coming too, so they bought up all they could get before the plug was pulled. Screw the average American. It's as Chris Muir said, he's not as worried about where the bullets will come from, as much as how the government will deliver them and I'm right there with him on that one.

So, back door gun control is moving forward and while we are all distracted with shiny stuff, our Second Amendment rights are just about gone. Obama is one Marxist dictator who is savvy at political chess. He has flanked the Second Amendment. Now it's our move.

Using Chicago-style thuggery, President Obama recently deployed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to shut down a major source of material used in manufacturing ammunition. This is an overt back door assault on our Second Amendment rights by a federal agency!

Since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has given Barack Obama a path to confirmation on over 180 leftist federal agency leaders and 50 new activist federal judges, the American people can be assured that almost anything Barack Obama wants done, he’ll be able to accomplish through federal regulations.

Please see my very important update below – Mat.

If President Obama has his way, buying ammunition for weapons protected by the Second Amendment could get increasingly difficult.

The EPA has targeted the Doe Run Company, the only remaining primary lead smelter in the United States. The EPA’s stringent regulations (some would say absurdly stringent) would have caused the company to shell out more than $100 million to comply – or shut down. The Herculaneum, Missouri, company, operating since 1892, has reluctantly chosen to shut down.

According to The Daily Caller, The Doe Run Company is the only remaining smelter in the United States that can produce lead bullion from raw lead ore. “The lead bullion is then sold to lead product producers, including ammunition manufactures, for use in conventional ammunition components such as projectiles, projectile cores, and primers.”

++This is a back-door assault on the Second Amendment!

Earlier this year, the Department of Homeland Security was cited for buying 1.6 billion rounds of ammo, sparking inflated munitions costs.

Former Congressman and combat commander Allen West took note of the EPA’s recent actions and offered this commentary through Breitbart…

“It seems this is fully in concert with the U.S. Military and Homeland Defense recent purchase of large quantities of ammunition.

The effect is chilling: you can own all the guns you want, but if you can’t get ammo, you are out of luck. Remember when President Obama promised his minions that he was working on gun control behind the scenes? Welcome to it. The result is that all domestically mined lead ore will have to be shipped overseas, refined, and then shipped back to the US.”

Of course, imported ammunition would be subject to trade regulations and possible additional Obama administration restrictions. Thus, never having to face the inconvenience of passing through the People’s Congress, Barack Obama could achieve gun control!

Utilizing frontal assaults or backdoor tactics, our constitutionally protected rights are under assault by the Obama administration. Whatever actions he can’t get through Congress, he’s increasingly able to achieve through executive action using his myriad federal agencies.

++We must take action to stop this travesty!

Tomorrow the United States Senate, under the tyranny of Harry Reid, begins its final 2013 session. Among the order of business will be the confirmation of over 180 bureaucrats and 50 judicial ideologues.

The President intends to get as many nominations as possible through while he has this window of opportunity.

In essence, Barack Obama has been handed the power to get confirmation of his ideological clones for whatever positions of power he can find for them.

We are calling upon all patriots to rise up and stand against Harry Reid’s dismissal of the longstanding rules governing the Senate. His sole purpose in changing the rules was to ramrod through Obama’s nominees, the first of whom will be brought to the Senate floor very soon.

I believe that a massive public outcry will gain the attention of the senators who went along with this travesty and make them realize that they will be held accountable!

Please take a moment right now and utilize the powerful LCA Fax Barrage system to tell Harry Reid, your two Arkansas senators, and other key members of the senior chamber that you oppose Reid’s tyrannical actions – and the ramrodding of Obama’s leftist nominees through the Senate:

++Barack Obama is using federal agencies to ramrod his radical leftist agenda.

The EPA has become one of several agencies commissioned by the President to inflict relentless pressure on American business and individuals…

In 2011, armed federal agents dressed in SWAT gear under orders from Eric Holder and the Department of Justice raided Gibson Guitars in Nashville for allegedly violating another country’s laws by importing improperly handled exotic wood.

The DOJ shut down the company for almost a month. Although Gibson admitted no intentional wrongdoing, under a criminal enforcement agreement they were forced to pay over $300,000 in fines. This was clearly a politicized assault as the head of Gibson Guitars is a well-known Republican supporter and the raid took place during the same timeframe as the IRS targeting of conservative organizations.

Although Martin Guitars uses the same wood, they were untouched by the DOJ. The head of Martin Guitars is a Democrat Party supporter.

The DOJ, under the politicized leadership of Barack Obama and his acolyte Eric Holder, is one of the most corrupt federal agencies in the history of our nation.

Eric Holder has been engaged in…

Advancing leftist ideologies, espousing racial favoritism, suing states over so-called “discriminatory” voter ID laws, targeting pro-life and conservative organizations and values, advancing the unconstitutional ObamaCare law for the White House, failing to uphold natural marriage while advancing the homosexual agenda, and illegally targeting media reporters.

I would call that an effective all-out assault on the constitutionally protected rights of American citizens with the endorsement and protection of the President himself!

The IRS suppression of conservative groups and voices is among the most egregious violations of the public trust in the history of America.

The destabilizing of industries associated with our Second Amendment right to bear arms by a federal agency (the EPA) is just the latest example of Barack Obama’s insatiable will to squash his adversaries.

Make no mistake: The naked power grab by Harry Reid in using the “nuclear option” will rapidly advance Obama’s leftist transformation of our nation.

Harry Reid will one day be seen as the worse Senate Majority Leader in American history! In fact, he may well have actually caused the death of the Senate’s ability to perform its function under the Constitution.

Your message to Stop Harry Reid’s tyranny and to oppose Barack Obama’s leftist federal appointments and judicial nominees is included in the fax messaging to the Senate.

Click here to send your faxes today. Even if you have already done so, please go here to make a powerful statement:

It will take a massive number of American patriots to stand against the tyranny of the Obama/Reid machine but Liberty Counsel Action will not back down! God bless you for standing for up our nation as it is being overtaken from within.

    Mathew Staver, Chairman
    Liberty Counsel Action

P.S. President Obama has and will continue to use federal agencies and executive orders to sidestep Congress to advance his agenda.

Senator Harry Reid has helped immeasurably by opening the floodgates to President Obama’s radical leftist judicial and federal agency nominations – and the President plans to flood the system while he can.

Please, fax the Senate today to tell your senators that you oppose Harry Reid’s power grab and that they should vote down Obama’s initial nominees, who will stack the Circuit Court of Appeals that rules on his actions. Go here to make your voice count:

Doe Run workers to be cut at end of December

HERCULANEUM • About 145 employees of the Doe Run lead smelter have learned they will lose their jobs at the end of December because of the plant’s closure, the Doe Run Co. said Wednesday. An additional 73 contractor jobs also will be eliminated.

The job cuts were expected. The plant, which has operated for more than a century and is the lone remaining lead smelter in the United States, announced in 2010 that it will cease operations at the end of this year.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the company “made a business decision” to shut down the smelter instead of installing pollution control technologies needed to reduce sulfur dioxide and lead emissions as required by the Clean Air Act.

The Doe Run Co. announced last year that it had dropped plans to build a new lead processing facility in Herculaneum that would have used a new, cleaner lead production technology. The company cited the $100 million project as too financially risky.

Employees were notified of their future with the company or of their impending layoff between Sept. 30 and Oct. 8 in face-to-face meetings, said Tammy Stankey, a company spokeswoman.

The company will keep about 75 employees into 2014 to operate its refinery and strip mill and to prepare the property “for closure and repurposing.” It expects to have transferred 43 employees to other Doe Run divisions by this year’s end, according to a company statement.

Some operations, such as the water treatment plant, will operate indefinitely, and a maintenance staff will remain to “maintain essential facilities,” the company said.
The company said it had been working with employees for months to help them transition to new roles and had set up a career center to help with resume writing, interviewing and job searches.

“We have a very talented workforce and encourage businesses looking for dedicated, hardworking and skilled employees to contact us,” Gary Hughes, general manager of the smelter, said in the statement.

    AMMO MANUFACTURES HAVE THEIR SAY

The Sierra Bullet Company said recently that it’s not worried about the Doe Run closure.

“Sierra uses no primary lead at all and never has, so we use nothing directly from this facility,” the company said in a statement on its website. “[W]e do not see any reason for alarm. We expect our supply to continue and keep feeding our production lines which are still running 24 hours per day to return our inventory levels to where they should be.”

“No impact upon any cast bullet manufacturing operation whatever. We do not use virgin lead, which is what Doe Run provided,” Brad Alpert, operations manager for the Missouri Bullet Company, told TheBlaze in an email. “We use foundry alloy from major foundries derived from scrap sources, purified and cleaned to purity.”

“Employees wear protective gear to keep themselves safe as they work to produce lead metals and alloys critical to modern society,” the company’s site reads. (Image source: Doe Run Company)

“The jacketed bullets companies (Winchester, Remington, Federal, et al.) use the same sources that we do,” Alpert wrote.

Steve Weliver of Cape Fear Arsenal added in an email to TheBlaze:

“We have not begun production at rates that this will impact.”

“At this time we do not anticipate any additional strain on our ability to obtain lead,” Tim Brandt of ATK, the parent company of Federal Premium, CCI, and Speer ammunition, said in reference to the Herculaneum closure in a company FAQ.

Roughly 80 percent of “lead used in the United States secondary market (which is what most ammunition manufacturers use) comes from recycled batteries and another 7 percent to 9 percent of lead on the market comes from other scrap sources,” Owens reported, citing Daniel Hill, Operations Manager at Mayco Industries. “Only 10 percent of the lead in the U.S. comes from mining.”

Simply put, the shuttering of the Herculaneum facility could have an impact as far as demand for primary lead is concerned — but it’s questionable whether that will affect the ammunition market
    .

The lead used in ammunition will still be available and it would seem like a stretch to say that the EPA forcing a Missouri plant to shut down is a “back door” ploy to enact stricter gun control.

    BOTTOM LINE

President Obama had little, if anything, to do with the longstanding battle between the EPA and the Doe Run Company. Further, if one is to take ammunition manufactures at their word, it does not appear that the Herculaneum closure will have any affect on the availability of ammunition in the United States.

Now it could be that the Obama administration is cheering the closure of the facility and the possible message it sends. But that’s a maybe. And since many are saying it won’t affect the gun industry, it’s hard to know what message that would be. In short, there is too much that we don’t know.

“Could the lack of primary lead create a little more demand for recycled lead? Sure, but how much is unknown,” the Sierra Bullet Company said on its website. “Could this increase in demand also create an increase in price? Sure, but again, by how much is unknown at this time.”

So where did West get his information? The post that appears on West’s site is based almost entirely on an article from a site called noisyroom.net. The West post originally appeared without attribution to noisyroom.net.

West’s staff later updated his site to include citation to the original blog, telling TheBlaze in an email that the “omission of attribution” was an editorial mistake.

TheBlaze contacted the author of the original article, Terresa Monroe-Hamilton, and she confirmed that portions of her article were used without her knowledge. However, she said in an email that West’s staff apologized to her for the oversight, adding that the apology was “sufficient and gracious.”

As for where Monroe-Hamilton got her information, she clarified “the piece was more my opinion than anything else.”

Michele Hickford, the editor in chief of West’s site, responded to an inquiry from TheBlaze in an email: “Per Terresa’s [Monroe-Hamilton] POV the fact is the plant didn’t close under Bush, it is closing under Obama. Allen believes that closing this plant and others will set precedent and is intended to lead to gun control and infringement of the Second Amendment.”

Hickford added: “There’s just too much ‘coincidence’ with all these events.”

MILLER: Obama’s EPA closing smelter will not affect ammunition supply

    By Emily Miller
    The Washington Times
    Monday, December 2, 2013

Gun owners can rest easy about one aspect of President Obama’s agenda. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decision to close the country’s last remaining lead smelter will not cause further ammunition shortages or higher costs.

    Lawrence Keane
is the senior vice president and general counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which represents the ammunitions and firearms industry.

“Manufacturers use recycled lead to make ammunition. They don’t buy from smelters,” Mr. Keane told me Monday. “The EPA closing, which has been in the works for a while, will have no impact on production, supply or cost to the consumers.”

A primary smelter is like a coal mine — it takes the lead out of the ground and turns it into a usable product.

The more than 100-year-old Doe Run Lead Smelter is closing its Herculaneum plant at the end of the year to comply with air-quality standards set by the EPA.
American ammunition manufacturers use lead that has been recycled from a variety of everyday products, like car batteries and tire weights.

Ammunition supply has been at historic lows over the last year. This has led some to believe Internet conspiracy theories blaming Mr. Obama, such as the Department of Homeland Security buying up the civilian supply.

In fact, supply is low simply because demand was off the charts in the year leading up to Mr. Obama’s re-election.

After the president announced his gun-control agenda following the Newtown tragedy last December, demand rose for the already-low supply, which led to empty shelves.

Heavy demand continues today because of gun owners’ legitimate fears of additional federal and state restrictions on their Second Amendment rights.

The major manufacturers have been trying to backfill the supply by running the plants with 24/7 with three shifts in 2013, according to the NSSF.
However, gun owners should be genuinely concerned about ammunition costs skyrocketing due to the law recently signed by California Gov. Jerry Brown that bans lead ammo for hunting in the state.

The Golden State is always leading the country is inventing absurd gun-control laws based on junk science.

This new statute is based on two bogus claims: that lead ammunition kills off wildlife populations and that people can get sick from eating game shot with lead ammo.

“Banning traditional ammunition will result in an unprecedented constriction of supply and massive price increases,” Mr. Keane of the NSSF said of the California law.

“Large numbers of hunters will be driven out of the field and target shooters off the firing line.”

Make no mistake, Mr. Obama and his gun-grabbing cohorts around the country want to infringe on the Second Amendment whenever possible.

However, in the case of the lead smelter closing, gun owners ought not to be up in arms.

Emily Miller is senior editor of opinion for The Washington Times andauthor of “Emily Gets Her Gun” (Regnery, 2013).
