Rob Natelson, recognized national expert on the framing and adoption of the United States Constitution, offers a lesson on the general Welfare clause of the United States Constitution. He discusses the original meaning of the words themselves, the meaning of general welfare in the preamble, the original meaning and understanding of the clause, the taxing clause, the Hamiltonian vs the Madisonian view, anti-federalist concerns, modern interpretations, court cases which have turned its meaning upside down, practical reasons for a limiting view of the clause and the Constitution as a whole, and more.

Its common sense that the General Welfare Clause was never intended to give the federal Government unlimited power, they have misused it before like FDR did, its hightime it is stopped.

What people try to confuse on the issue, is the general meaning of welfare. The Preamble says "promote" the general welfare. Not "provide" the general welfare. And if one reads the writings of Madison, he specifically states that the general welfare did not mean taking care of people directly by government provisions of daily necessities.

Good Point, also the General Welfare Clause was never meant to override the rest of the constitution itself. That in itself is enough merit to deem the heathcare bill unconstitutional.
