NIMBY: Liberal Elites Lose It Over Proposed Nantucket Low-Income Housing Project

    MONDAY, JAN 23, 2023 - 01:20 PM

Liberal elites spend their summers on Nantucket, an isolated island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Many year-round residents live in homes worth millions of dollars and are furious about the plans to build an affordable housing complex on the island.
Surfside Crossing is planning to build 156 homes on a 13-acre affordable housing development has sparked a flurry of lawsuits and protests. A record amount of residents have turned out at hearings to object to the low-income housing development amid the worst affordability crisis for homeownership ever.

Residents claim the new housing development "will damage the environment and strain resources, and that the developers are using the subsidized housing angle to skirt zoning restrictions," according to The Daily Beast.

Meanwhile, the developers say most elite residents are just furious that a low-income housing project will be in their own multi-million backyard.
On an island where some homes are listed for sale between $30 and +$50 million, and the median listing home prices are above $3 million -- it should make sense why residents don't want these affordable homes priced between $261,000 and $373,000.
Tucker Holland, the town's housing director, said it was "the biggest controversy that I can recall in recent years."
Meghan Perry, a year-round resident and opponent of the low-income housing project, said:
"I think the developers underestimated our community."
However, the rich liberals don't want the working poor in their backyards. These workers clean their [rich people] pools, mow their grass, police their neighborhoods, and serve them food -- are forced to live off the island and commute to work because of affordability housing woes.
Residents, such as Perry, claim the low-income development isn't a case of NIMBY-ism but instead about protecting the environment.
She added: "It's going to weaken our infrastructure, it's going to put our first responders at risk, it's going to put the community at risk."
The Daily Beast said residents are slamming the low-income development with lawsuits at every avenue they can get:
The Housing Appeals Committee gave Surfside Crossing its final seal of approval in September 2022, but the fight didn't stop there. Less than a month later, the developers were hit with three lawsuits challenging the decision, including a filing from the nonprofit Nantucket Land Council that claimed the construction would threaten its work on behalf of public lands.
And about a 1.5-hour ferry ride away is another liberal enclave of elites in Martha's Vineyard -- where National Guard units were called in last fall to transport dozens of migrants out of the town.
A pattern is emerging of NIMBY-ism in elite liberal New England towns. These are examples of hypocrisy at its finest.

Sad, Illegal Aliens are hitting the 2 for 1 sales with thier Biden Bucks food stamps

Millions Of Americans Face "Hunger Cliff" As 32 States Set To Slash Emergency Food Stamp Benefits

    SATURDAY, FEB 11, 2023 - 12:00 PM
More than 30 million Americans face a "hunger cliff," as 32 states are set to slash food-stamp benefits beginning in March. By number, California and Texas have the most people on food stamps, at 5.1 million and 3.6 million respectively.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program notably exploded from $60.3 billion in 2019 to $119.5 billion in 2022 thanks to the Agriculture Department expanding food-stamp benefits by evading the normal process for determining eligibility and end-running Congressional review.

The reductions are due to the end of so-called emergency allotments, which bolstered food-stamp benefits at the start of the pandemic as Americans grappled with the massive disruption to the economy. While the U.S. is certainly on more stable footing than in 2020, households are now struggling with high food costs — groceries were about 10% higher in December than a year earlier — making the timing of the SNAP cuts particularly challenging, experts say. -CBS News
"This huger cliff is coming to the vast majority of states, and people will on average lose about $82 of SNAP benefits a month," said Ellen Vollinger, the SNAP director at the anti-hunger advocacy group, the Food Research & Action Center. "That is a stunning number."

Graphic via CBS NewsThe move comes after 18 states already ended their emergency benefits, while the remaining 32 states that continued the additional aid will lose federal funding to in March as part of the 2023 Omnibus spending bill which was signed into law in December.

Total cost of SNAP program (via the Department of Agriculture)The changes mean that a family of four could see benefits cut by around $328 per month, while elderly Americans who receive the minimum monthly benefit could see their SNAP payments fall from $281 per month to as low as $23. In 2022, the average monthly benefit per person was $230.88, an increase from $129.83 in 2019.

Average SNAP benefit per person (via the Department of Agriculture)And despite having the lowest unemployment rate since 1969, more than 42 million Americans remain on food stamps - 6% more than in 2020, according to USDA data.
"What sometimes gets missed in that conversation is the part that so many SNAP households are employed, but often employed at low-wage levels — they aren't in jobs that are family-sustaining so they still qualify for SNAP," said Vollinger.
Food banks, meanwhile, are bracing for an increase in demand as food aid is slashed.
"People are having to choose between putting food on the table and paying rent," said Food Bank of the Rockies CEO, Erin Pulling. "We are seeing more people than ever needing help with food assistance."
As for the food stamp cuts, Pulling says "We're bracing for it."

Denver now America’s most dangerous city after being governed by Dems for years

(Natural News) Colorado is one of the more beautiful states in our country, with mountains, hills, snowy ski resorts, and cities that, at one point, were magnificent.
That was especially true of Denver, the “mile-high city” that was modern, vibrant, and upwardly mobile. Now, after being governed for decades by an increasingly left-wing Democratic Party, the city has earned the dubious ‘honor’ of becoming the most dangerous in all of America — even more so than St. Louis, Detroit, New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
“Some statistics from the Denver Police Department: Aggravated assaults, robberies, and homicides, through mid-December 2022, numbered 6,810. Three years ago, that number was 4,924. Property crimes in 2019 were 26,133. In 2022, through mid-December: 42,100,” The New American reported this week.
The murder and assault rates in the city are also twice the national rates and three times the nationwide average for rapes and robberies, the report continued, adding that crime was up across the state in 2022 by more than 20 percent since 2008. That was the year that GOP state Rep. Rob Witwer, a conservative, announced that he was not going to seek reelection because, even back then, he saw what was coming.
The “gang of four” — four left-wing millionaires — had completely taken over the state government. Four years earlier, Republicans not only held the governor’s office but also both chambers of Congress. By 2007, however, they were ousted by Democrats, and the party has managed to keep a stranglehold on government since then (thanks to citizens who obviously have not associated Democrats with the rising crime rates and other problems they don’t agree with or like, such as homelessness).
Now, it is referred to in political circles as “The Colorado Model,” according to The New American. In 2009, Witwer wrote:
In hindsight, what Colorado Democrats did was as simple as it was effective. First, they built a robust network of nonprofit entities to replace the Colorado Democratic party, which had been rendered obsolete by campaign-finance reform. Second, they raised historic amounts of money from large donors to fund these entities. Third, they developed a consistent, topical message. Fourth, and most important, they put aside their policy differences to focus on the common goal of winning elections.
As former Democratic House majority leader Alice Madden later said, “It’s not rocket science.”
As George Washington Plunkett, famous Tammany Hall politico, noted famously, “I seen my opportunities, and I took ’em.” Because campaign finance reform significantly reduced influence of Colorado residents in elections and the ‘gang of four’ saw their chance: Bring in a huge amount of outside money and flip elections to the point where the party could then dominate all of politics and set up rules so that the party would never lose, as Witwer noted:
    The “Gang” included the following:
Pat Stryker, granddaughter heiress of the Stryker Corporation; Tim Gill, the founder of software company Quark; Rutt Bridges, a Chevron executive who then created and sold software for the petroleum exploration industry; and Jared Polis, a co-founder of American Information Systems (AIS), an internet access provider, and a founder of ProFlowers.
Polis, the current governor of Colorado, served in Congress as a Democratic lawmaker from 2009 until he successfully ran for his current elected position and won in 2018.
“The gang brought with them their ideology, particularly their agenda supporting the LGBTQ movement. In 2019, Gill was the single largest individual donor to that movement in U.S. history, having personally committed more than $500 million to that cause since the early 1990s,” The New American reported. And “Polis proudly states his history as a homosexual on his Wikipedia page.”
So: “Does being run by liberal Democrats translate into rising crime for a city? The Daily Signal reported that 27 of the top 30 most crime-ridden cities in the country are run by Democrats.”
And like other Dem-dominated states where crime is rampant, residents are leaving. “A 2022 United Van Lines study showed more people leaving than coming, while a CBS Colorado study reported that in 2010, 37,569 people moved into Colorado while in 2021 that number dropped to 14,371,” TNA noted.
Actually, the better thing to do is for conservatives to repopulate the state, adopt “The Colorado Model” themselves, and retake it from Democrats. All it would take is a couple of election cycles.

Crime City: New York City records highest number of felony crimes in 16 years

(Natural News) New York City has become a much more dangerous place, with police data noting that 2022 had the highest recorded number of felony crimes in 16 years.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), there were 172,852 felony crimes reported in 2022, the most since 2006, when the department first started sharing such statistics publicly. (Related: More people are rapidly leaving crime-ridden, high-cost cities like New York, San Francisco and Chicago.)
Almost every single felony crime category rose from 2021 to 2022. Grand larceny of a vehicle rose by 32 percent, followed by burglary, which rose by 27 percent, and then robberies, which rose by 26 percent.
They are followed by grand larceny, dangerous weapons, rape and felony assault, which rose by 25 percent, 21 percent, 17 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
One of the few felony crimes to drop last year was murder, which the NYPD attributed to a reduction in shootings. But the number of felony crimes in New York City still rose by 20.4 percent compared to 2021, when only 142,522 felony crimes were recorded.
Serious offenses rose by 22.4 percent from 2021 to 126,588. This is also the first time that major crimes in New York City rose above 120,000 incidents in a year.
Crime a serious issue in New York City

The staggeringly-high felony crime figures highlight the struggles that remain for Democratic Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD. Last year, both the mayor and the police focused much of their attention on tackling gun violence and subway crime. While this did result in a decrease in the number of murders, it did end up diverting far too much of the NYPD’s very limited resources to preventing just one kind of criminal activity.
Adams himself has blamed the rise in crime on criminal justice reforms passed in 2019 by former far-left New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, which allowed thousands of offenders back into the streets. Adams, a former police officer himself, has vowed to boost funding to the city’s District Attorneys’ Offices to get recidivists let out by De Blasio back behind bars.
Meanwhile, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has proposed providing $40 million in additional funding for more prosecutors and another $40 million to help deal with the discovery burden that has led to an increase in criminal case dismissals under the 2019 reforms.
“Things in a large city aren’t supposed to grow that much or go down that much in one year,” said former NYPD Supervisor Chris Hermann. “This is kind of like monumental kind of stuff … like once in a lifetime.”
“The end-of-year numbers are horrible,” he added. “Like, there’s no way to get around that.”
While not included in the NYPD’s data, police experts warned that other felonies should also be taken seriously, such as criminal mischief and criminal contempt. These so-called “minor crimes” can often be a “prelude” to more serious offenses, warned Hermann.
“Criminal trespass is always a prelude to burglary, which can be a prelude [crime], which can quickly become a robbery, which can then quickly become an assault,” he said. “The misdemeanor assault becomes a felony assault, becomes the domestic violence shooting – there has always been an escalation of violence with regard to domestic violence. Those things you know, certainly do matter.”
These non-major felonies are also on the rise in New York City. There were 13,006 incidents of criminal mischief recorded in 2022, up from 11,052 in 2021.
Criminal contempt, which people are often accused of for flouting a judge’s order, rose from 8,463 incidents in 2021 to 10,216 by the end of 2022. Dangerous weapon complaints also rose from 3,952 to 4,783.

Photos of homeless encampments at O’Hare Airport cause an uproar

Sunday, February 19, 2023 by: Arsenio Toledo
Tags: big government, blue cities, chaos, Chicago, Collapse, crime, criminals, homeless, homeless encampments, homelessness, Illinois, Lori Lightfoot, O'Hare International Airport
    3,600VIEWS

(Natural News) Photos and videos showing massive homeless encampments at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago have caused an uproar among Chicagoans.
Passengers were quick to take pictures and videos of the deteriorating situation at the airport and post them on social media. These photos and videos show thousands of people seeking refuge at the airport, with many setting up shelters inside terminal buildings. (Related: More people are rapidly leaving crime-ridden, high-cost cities like New York, San Francisco and Chicago.)
One photo that went viral showed a group of homeless people sleeping among their belongings near Terminal 1 of the airport. Another photo shows one man slumped inside an entrance vestibule, and another shows a group of about half a dozen homeless people who have occupied an indoor area next to an escalator.
“I flew back to O’Hare, Terminal 3, last week. I had never seen such a homeless problem, in baggage, in the 50 years I have lived in Cook County,” wrote one Chicago native. “It’s not even that cold out … It was dystopian.”
As a secure location, O’Hare does not allow members of the public to stay inside airport property unless they are flying in or out or are employees working there. Unfortunately, this has not stopped Chicago’s homeless population from seeking shelter there.
Jessica Dubuar, director of specialty programs and services for Haymarket Center, an outreach organization for homeless people, noted that the number of people seeking shelter at O’Hare always increases in the winter months. But this year, the increase has been exceptionally higher.
Haymarket Center’s outreach program for the homeless at O’Hare has served 618 homeless people in 2022 – up 58 percent from 2021, when it served 431.
Mayor Lightfoot vows to remove homeless from O’Hare following uproar

Once the pictures and videos of the homeless encampments in O’Hare drew national attention and criticism, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot immediately vowed to do everything she can to remove the homeless people from the airport, calling it a safety issue.
In remarks to reporters on Thursday, Feb. 16, Lightfoot acknowledged the seriousness of the problem while at the same time arguing that news reports about the situation in O’Hare had blown the issue out of proportion.
“The fact of the matter is, we have taken and will continue to take the steps that are necessary to move the people out of the airports,” she said. “The airports are a very different place than on the street, under an underpass. It’s a secure location, and the message is clear from me to the Department of Aviation, the Police Department up there.”
“We absolutely, fundamentally, cannot have people sleeping in our airports who are homeless. That is unacceptable,” she continued. “We are going to continue, within the bounds of the law, to do what is necessary to provide those folks with support but elsewhere. They can’t be in our airports.”
