LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles and Orange counties added more construction employment in 2013 than any other metropolitan area in the nation, the Associated General Contractors of America said today.

An estimated 17,300 jobs were added in the construction sector in the Los Angeles and Santa Ana areas, according to an analysis of federal jobs data undertaken by the trade group.

The Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale area got 9,100 of those full-time equivalent jobs, and 8,200 jobs were in Orange County.

Only the greater Atlanta area added more jobs than either of the California counties: 10,500.

``Construction employment continued to expand in many parts of the country in November, but most areas have a long way to go before reaching prior peak levels,’’ said the association’s chief executive officer, Stephen E. Sandherr.
