Fox’s Wallace Battles GOPers: How Will You Deal with Tea Party ‘Split’?

Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace took on two GOP lawmakers Sunday morning, trying to get them to comment on a “split” within the GOP that contributed to the surprising loss of outgoing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) last Sunday.
Wallace interrogated tea partier Tom Price (R-GA) on whether the tea party faction of the GOP would revolt if a tea partier wasn’t chosen for one of the two open leadership positions,* and National Republican Congressional Committee chair Greg Walden (R-OR) on how other Republican incumbents plan on keeping back primary challenges.

Both men skirted the question of the “split,” arguing that opposition to the Obama administration would paper over any divide in the party. “But gentlemen, there is a split,” Wallace objected, citing Cantor rival Dave Brat’s opposition to immigration as a perfect example.
Walden acknowledged that immigration “played a role” in Cantor’s defeat, but argued that the surprise loss was due to a host of individualized factors, and did not represent a national schism within the party.
* As in, if Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) gets Majority Leader, opening up Whip.
