    Associated Press .

    A gang task force made up of members from the Mesa Police Department and 11 other agencies has conducted 127 arrests in slightly more than two weeks.

    Authorities said Operation Summer Surge was responsible for taking violent criminals off the streets while disrupting gang-related activity.

    Of those arrested throughout Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Apache Junction and Scottsdale, 58 suspects were documented gang members from 33 gangs.

    Police said that overall, the multi-agency task force has made 400 arrests in its three quarterly operations this year.

    Mesa assistant Chief of Police John Meza said the message is police are not going to let up in stopping and disrupting gang activity.
