New Obama Order Lets DOCTORS Report Gun-Owning Patients to the FBI

Say goodbye to doctor-patient confidentiality.

Under a “hidden” provision in Obama’s new gun control rules — released today — doctors are now authorized to turn in patients they deem ‘mentally ill’ or a ‘potential threat’ so the government can strip them of their Second Amendment rights.

The rule was first proposed in January 2013 following the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, but never acted upon, due to massive Congressional opposition.

Clearly King Obama no longer has any use for Congress, as the rule will now take effect February 1st.

Just like that, your doctor now becomes a spy for Progressive gun-grabbers in Washington.

Politico reports:

While the 1993 Brady law prohibits gun ownership by individuals who have been involuntarily committed, found incompetent to stand trial or otherwise deemed to be a danger to themselves or others, federal health care privacy rules prohibited doctors and other providers from sharing information without the consent of their patients.

Under the rule, which takes effect next month, for the first time health providers can disclose the information to the background check system without legal repercussions.

“The disclosure is restricted to limited demographic and certain other information needed for NICS purposes,” the rule states. Disclosure of diagnostic or clinical information is prohibited.

As Top Right News reported in March 2014, this rule was advocated by Vivek Murthy, the current Obama Surgeon General who was then a controversial nominee. Murthy wanted all doctors to ask patients if they had guns at home, and add that information to the “ObamaCare database,” as he put it. He also supported having doctors who felt patients were “a danger to themselves or others” to be reported to the Feds for possible action on their possession of guns — nearly the exact same language as today’s rule states.
