WHITEHALL, N.Y. -- Two New York Naval Militia patrol boats and crews will be conducting training on Lake Champlain from July 15 to July 17.

The two 22-foot long Metalcraft Kingfisher boats manned by five Naval Militia members will transit Lake Champlain from Whitehall at the lake's junction with the Champlain Canal to the Canadian border at Rouses Point.

The purpose of the training is to familiarize the crews with operation of the patrol boats, as well as familiarize themselves with navigating on Lake Champlain.

The New York Naval Militia has conducted missions in support of the United States Border Patrol and the United States Coast Guard on the lake.

The two boats will also stop at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Burlington, Vermont, as part of the training mission.

The New York Naval Militia is the naval component of New York's Military Forces.

Most of the 3,000 members of the Naval Militia are also members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Reserve who volunteer to perform state missions during security or weather emergencies.

Five percent of the member are retired military members who serve in state mission status only.

The Naval Militia operates a fleet of nine patrol boats which can support federal, state and local agencies. Naval Militia members also serve in other capacities when required.
